Hi,
any idea where I can send a Khmer friend that needs some training on how to manage a small to medium size business? The person in question has his own business and is getting by, but he really is losing money for lack of basic skills (e.g. how to monitor revenue and expenditures, how to properly keep books etc). A full fledged BA is out of the question because the business and family take up too much time. Evening or weekend classes would be perfect.
Cheers!

But full fledged BA course would be best. If not - have a look at coursera - they do short courses online on almost everything
an accountant a qualified GM with a BA or MBA, HRMarinaris wrote:Or he can hire an accountant if it's a medium size business
I don't think there is a n easy fix for this. You either need to spend a lot of time and effort in getting the knowledge or pay money to qualified professionals
let's say it is a small business then. It really is I guess. The thing is that the person in charge should have at least a basic understanding of all of this, no? it would be great if he had a grasp of what he earns, what his expenditures are, how much he can/should save and then make an informed decision on whether he hires additional help or not.HsRob wrote:an accountant a qualified GM with a BA or MBA, HRMarinaris wrote:Or he can hire an accountant if it's a medium size business

if there are no courses like this then so be it. Asking around does not hurt anyone though, does it?

It will require this person to put an effort into it one way ir the other.
Coursera? First things first, does the guy in question have an English level good enough to take classes in English?
I am sorry to point out but i doubt anything in khmer will be of any use. I have very little faith in education here, let alone some courseslogos wrote:Coursera? First things first, does the guy in question have an English level good enough to take classes in English?

You can take a look to the universities here then, IFL, Pannasastra, Mekong University or even Vanda Accountant University.
They all have evening courses, I don't know the fees though.
For a khmer, it should be enough to learn the basis of what he's looking for. By the way, a lot of lecturer in these Uni are foreigners (and some of them, really are knowledgeable)
Obviously, that's only feedback I got from people surrounding me, haven't been there myself.

There was a NGO that provided support and training to locals starting small businesses, but I don't know if its still going. Also there is "Impact hub" which supposedly helps start-ups in Cambodia. Was an article on it a couple of years ago on their "EPIC incubator" program. http://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/e ... s-cambodia
