Who to report death threats to?
Who to report death threats to?
A friend is getting email death threats from a former co-worker (a Middle-Eastern guy). My friends emails to the Cambodian National Police website "Contact Us" link go unanswered, and an email to the email address they show on their website comes back "undeliverable". Do any of you have a contact on the police force who speaks a bit of English or who will actually reply to an email? Thanks...

If I was getting credible death threats I wouldn’t be sending an email.
Maybe go to see someone - like a real live policeman perhaps. Maybe start by trying Tourist police at Wat Koh. Try stepping outside the online world and engage with a person face to face.
This is one of the most ridiculous posts I think I’ve read on here. Get a death threat & send an email, did your friend try writing a letter?

I'm not in Cambodia. Just trying to give my friend some suggestions so there is a paper trail regarding the reporting of the threats to the police. Of course, the embassy was contacted already. Now crawl back under your rock.

But
i'd tell him to contact his Embassy, so its on file with all relevant info

Did that already but the embassy said there is not much they can do (other than notify Cambodian immigration).

Also notified the nearest embassy of the person making the death threats, but no reply from them either (they don't have an embassy in Cambodia).

But your friend who is receiving the threat is in Cambodia, right?wolfcreek wrote:I'm not in Cambodia. If so, then my comment stands.
Can you give examples of these threats. Are they along the lines of
'I hate you, I'm gonna fuck you up like a dog'
or
'I'm going to slice open your belly and tie your entrails around your neck like a string of sausages, then cut off your cock and suffocate you with it whilst stabbing your eyes with white hot metal' ?

Massive stalker
Friend's employer has reported the threats but no one from the police (or immigration) has followed up on it as far as we can tell... Besides, if you have ever had to deal with the competent authorities in Cambodia you know how it usually goes...

What do you expect the Cambodian police to do? I honestly doubt they have the skills to pull-off a cyber investigation.
The guy will simply claim 1. he never sent those e-mails 2. his account was hacked
If your friend knows somebody at the local police they might have a chat with Middle Eastern guy in return for some beers/a small donation. It might scare him off or it pushes him over the edge.
Maybe rat him out to immigration if his papers are not in order.
I've received death threats of locals, former staff. Never bothered to report it, just take your own precautions.
When your friend is really worried something might actually happen: leave the country....

"You speak about me like I'm you're my enemy, why?"
"I'm from Chechnya, not fucking Makhachkala, ok?"
"My brother is a 5-star general, he has a great crocodile farm."
