Update on charges. If transferring under 10k there is a fee of AUD 12 if transferring AUD out of the country. Free if transferring foreign currency out. There will probably be a charge from the receiving bank, although that is not always the case.violet wrote:For Australians who are not aware ANZ has introduced online transfers to an international bank account (up to10k it isneither free or $8. So, even better than what I experienced transferring in the opposite direction, where I was charged 15 at origin.

For me that fee is larger then the fee at either end.violet wrote:For Australians who are not aware ANZ has introduced online transfers to an international bank account (up to10k it isneither free or $8. no intermediary bank fees.
Fyi I transferred money from ABA to an Aus bank and avoided intermediary fees by having AUD arrive into Aus rather than USD. So ABA exchanged and then transferred. Fees were outgoing from ABA (USD15) and incoming from Aus bank (Aud25). Nonidea if that was overall cheaper or not. The exchange rate from the bank seemed ok. The intermediary bank fee if I had transferred USD thatcwere then exchanged via intermediary would have been USD30
