Hello,
I have would like to know what the Electrical power situation there is. I live in Myanmar now and the power is out about 35% of the time. It really puts me in a bad situation being that I do a lot of work online. I am thinking about moving to Cambodia, Sihanoukville area. Is the Internet up time good there also? Basically tired of living here. Their Electrical grid has no double redundancy. I don't even think they know what that is. Basic IQ level in this country is at an all time low.
I have been to Cambodia before for only 2 weeks, visited Angkor Wat. Power was on all the time then. That was 8 years ago. Only reason I am still here is because I am married to a Myanmar lady. But I told her I have had enough of this country.
Even doing my Visa extension is a pain the axx. Every 3 months I have to go downtown to Immigration and pay them $50.00 crisp brand new USD. And then you have to wait about 5 hours to get that done, or have to come back the next day again. Takes 2 hours to go 15 miles one way, because of traffic. Have to fill out the same information over and over again. They don't even have Computers to handle all the Data. It is all hard copy. Stupid!!!
And then every month I have to go the the village Quarter office and pay them $25.00 just to live in the township. And all the extra tea money that goes along with it if you want it done soon. What a scam. This place is not Foreigner friendly. They are always thinking of ways to get into your wallet. I like the deal that I just have to pay for a 1 year visa in Cambodia. Way simpler.
Micheal

You’ll love Cambodia.
The anti corruption unit has completely wiped out any dodgy stuff here.
Corruption here is a thing of the past.

8 years ago, 1 year extensions of stay (EOS) were just a teeny weeny itsy bitsy bit easier than now. Read just a few of the gazillion threads regarding visas, EOSs (EOEssses?), and work permits.Micheal wrote:Hello,

Electrical and internet outages still occur. How often, and for how long, depend on where you live, who your landlord is, and the color of your skin.
Do you have any idea of what has happened to Sihanoukville in the past 8 years? Lots of threads on that too. Or just show up and be surprised.
Are you retired or a teacher? You'll want to read up on those issues also.
NOTE TO ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE IN THE WORLD:
If you haven't ever been to Cambodia, or if you've only spent a few weeks here more than a few years ago, come and spend a long holiday/vacation before you decide to up and move. Things have changed.

Thank you for the replies so far. Waiting for the time when I can leave here. Sounds like things are good there. I know its not perfect, but got to be better than here. Plus I like to be by the ocean. I grew up in Hawaii and I miss that. Here in Myanmar I am stuck inland, in Yangon. Beach is 5 to 6 hours away by bus. Hotel room rates are outrageous. $100.00 easy for 1 night. Oh, and they shut the power off at 9:00am in the morning till 5:00pm in the afternoon. What a joke.
