Anyone been in this situation ?
I've been here a few years on E Visa 12-month extensions primarily.
Now this is not possible anymore I need to obtain a work permit.
Thing is, I don't have a job and don't really want one. I have an income already.
I'm not old enough for retirement visa.
Is there any way I can get a work permit - self-employed maybe ?
Also, is it true I have to pay for work permits for all the previous years I've been here on E-Visa's ?
Thanks
Ps. I tried searching the forum but couldn't find the info I need.
First work permit
Pay an agent like everyone's favourite on Monivong, get a work permit, and pay again to get a letter of employment to get a visa extension. Not many other options.
'Freelance' WP will be around $300 + $100 per year for every year you had an E visa without a WP. Add an extra $100 or so to the extension for not needing a stamped letter of employment.

Thanks for the reply.
So they retrospectively charge you for work permits you didn't have when you didn't need one to get an extension - and wasn't working anyway ?
I reckon I'll keep my 700+ dollars and move back to Thailand.
Cheers anyway.

It's a fine for every year you didn't have one. You didn't need a WP to get a visa extension u till they started enforcing it, but you were technically meant to have one.Carlin wrote:Thanks for the reply.

The alternative if you don't intend to work is:
1. do a border run/weekend in bkk
2. reenter on a new E type entry visa
3. get a 6 month EG extension
4. repeat 1-3 every 7 months.
EG extension only possible with an E type entry visa and EG is non extendible, so once it expires you'd need to spend the weekend in Bangkok or wherever.
