Why do the Cambodian immigration officials insist on Thai baht (1,200) when entering Cambodia from Thailand? US dollars and Cambodian riel not accepted.
Presumably so that they can shaft you on the exchange rate.wolfcreek wrote:Why do the Cambodian immigration officials insist on Thai baht (1,200) when entering Cambodia from Thailand? US dollars and Cambodian riel not accepted.

Khmer Riel is not accepted for Visa fees, USD only...the border guards are just trying their luck, you CAN pay in USD, just stand your ground or suck it up buttercup.

i have entered a few times at KK, have ALWAYS paid $US30...
To be fair they have lowered their markup quite a bit as they used to ask 1000THB for the $20 visa.
Just wait them out, or walk into the office door left of the window with $30 in your passport, walk to the most senior looking guy, point outside to the tourists and state in a very friendly manner that "I know the price and if I wait you'll accept my $30, they don't know...yet...." and hand your passport to one of his underlings.

Had to look that up. I already learnt something today and it's only 6 in the morning.YaTingPom wrote:#ROFLCOPTER.slavedog wrote:Presumably so that they can shaft you on the exchange rate.wolfcreek wrote:Why do the Cambodian immigration officials insist on Thai baht (1,200) when entering Cambodia from Thailand? He was carrying $60,000 in his shoes (or so he said). Rather than argue and risk being detained/searched, he decided to pay the 1,200 baht.

I wonder how come OP didn’t mention the cost of health checkpoint he surely must have complied to. Last time I was there it surely still was in full scamming mode.
I really need to fix that avatar, Scoffer?

They've been trying this one on since 2006.
