I think there is some confusion as to the use of the term "Platin".
Many Cambodian boys and girls have what appears to be a "gold" necklace but which in reality is a base metal necklace that has been "Plated", as in electro plated, in low Karact gold. Ie, it looks golden.
You can go in to any market in Cambodia in to the working "Goldsmiths" area and see car batteries, or even mains electricity through a transformer, hooked up to small electro plating tanks/baths. Several times I have been asked by Cambodian women I know to pay for a quick "re-plating" of their thin necklace in a local market for circa US$2-3. And sure, their cheap necklace then looks brighter and more golden.
Platinum is an entirely different metal and a different matter/topic and is seldom found in Cambodia as near-pure gold in small link chains that can be sold individually are the portable wealth of the nation.

gold or platinum.

might not be able to tell the dif between 14, 18 22 k by weight
BUT quite easy to tell by color of the gold as the purity of the gold affects the color
14 k 58.3% gold
18k 75%
22K 91.7
Thai gold ( what you see for sale in the gold/red shops) is 23k or 96.5% pure

The use of the word "Norry" is/was still very much alive on the former Bamboo Railway in Battambang Province.
Not sure what word is in current use on the "recreated" Bamboo Railway as a tourist gimmic.

.999. Mea....is pure gold and yes very soft..
There are several incredible gold stores who sell beautiful pure gold jewelry..
They will give you a paper and will charge the current gold price with a slight charge for craft...
Because in the west gold jewelry is never pure and is stamped 10..18..etc..it is stronger for every day wear.
In Thailand gold is typically 93% gold 7% silver.
My wedding band is .99 pure mea..
All of my wife's jewelry is .999 mea and most is astonishing in its artistry..
It is for very rare occasions...a special wedding....special holiday...
We could sell it tomorrow for the current price of gold ...
Yes, the bangles ladies wear are not real...

The best place to buy pure gold is where the Indian gold smugglers get theirs. Essentially spot prices and truly pure gold moves in large volumes between cambodia and India in a tax avoidance scheme.
And do you know where that is?
