Safety in Province
Safety in Province
I'm wondering how good an idea it is to live 50kms south of PP , nice village on the river but I haven't seen any Barang in the area ?
Many thanks in advance

Unless you have a medical emergency its probably a lot safer then PP.
None but ourselves can free our mind.
It's an interesting question, though. What are the real risks in living in Cambodia?
No. 1 - must be the traffic/travelling the roads
No. 2? Being male and in your 50s?
Mo. 3? Being male and in your 20s?

I have a place in the provinces. I like living there much more than pp but unless youre an independent contractor or have some kind of income itll be difficult to sustain yourself. But in terms of traffic safety and drug gangs or what have you there is no comparison. Miles safer.
I'd say water buffalo - never had any issues with cows but we've had two water buffalo charges on the Hass (one at me!). Very rarely see snakes these days. Health related stuff is a risk but not many foreigners actually dying of these? I think most are able to either just get through it or get to a hospital before it's life threatening.
Drugs and/or poor lifestyle choices "heart attack" seems to claim a few. One of those in the boonies and you're likely to die.

Country folk have usually been a lot nicer than city folk, normally because city folk are always rushing to do things and fighting for crumbs while country folk are a lot more laid back.

I would be scared. Im the only barang in the village. My house has probably the flashest TV in the village, and my computer gear. and my adidas shirt and all the wonderful other stuff he thinks I may own.
I would be worried about my stuff. Sure, all the village people are good, but every village has a jao. I would worry, so he watches me go out. I would employ a guard.

The countryside is full of savages.

Uneducated, violent, superstitious and drunken savages regularly chop each other up.

I don't know if the PP Post still has the police blotter column in the print edition but it's the stuff of nightmares...
