HI all,
Just got back from car shopping (car was rear ended and might want to get rid of it), and I'm gobsmacked (sort of) by the price increases as of late.
So I'm interested at buying a newly imported smaller displacement car like a 1.0 liter supermini Toyota or something like it, as the dealers I went to didn't have anything smaller than a 1.5 engine car, and those were in the $14,500 - $17,000 range.
Does anyone know of an importer or someone who has something like a Toyota Yaris 1.0 or 1.3 or something similar (maybe a Nissan Micra) for sale? Looking for a 04-08 and hope to spend no more than $12k. Also want to avoid Korean made things like Chevy Sparks or Kia Mornings. Checked online and the only superminis were fake pictures and after checking one of the cars, it wasn't even close to what was pictured.
Also, if anyone knows any good body shop recommendations, please let me know. Hatch wont close on our car now, and the rear bumper supports are caved in so it will need straightening and obviously painting.
Thanks in advance,
A10
Buying a car? Looking for Euro imported vehicles.
The import tax alone on a 1.0 Yaris would be in the region of $9000. You won't find anything recent (less than 13-14 years) under 15k imho.
Tax ended up being $3600 something. I had a glance at the tax table at the dealership earlier so that's why I became interested in a supermini over another Prius or Corolla. Anyway, decided it's not worth fixing the Prius so we went shopping again this afternoon and ended up taking home a different car.
2006 no crash (for real no crash, I'm a bodyshop guy) 40,000 mile Yaris 1.0. Miles are genuine, cross checked it with the auction listing, so pretty pleased about the condition. It's actually cleaner than my car back in California. There were several 100,000 miles + examples and light crashed and repaired versions going for high $8k low $9k, and there were a few 1.3s we found but were all over $11,000.
So it was $10,100 all in for our car.

Never ever seen a Yaris in Asia. (One of the most reliable cars. EVER!)
Micras are called March’s here.
In future contact Matt Lee of MSN Motors (Might be MNN motors, I forget)

pew, pew, pew, pew!
Tried looking him up but didn't see anything.
But either or, I've actually seen a few Yaris around in Phnom Penh (saw two on my way to go shopping) but obviously nothing compared to the sea of Lexus SUVs and Prius.
We don't get the 1.0 liter engine in the U.S. some I'm kind of enjoying the little 3 pot engine honestly.

Well that’s ironic that you saw it whilst shopping.
That’s what their market is - old age pensioners doing their weekly shop.
No harm no foul.

I'm a little far off from getting social security, in fact, I suspect by the time I'm of age that there will be no more money left for any payouts, so I'm not making any bets.
