Backup generators
Hi, curious if you guys hake bought bakcup generators if your building did have them? I want something good enough to power a couple fans, computer and monitor. I plan to rent a lower cost place so will probably need my own backup generator.
For a small scale operation it seems better to get a UPS, forget the fans.
Why not use a laptop with a battery that will last for a few hours?

And plug a couple USB fans on it ?
There you go, that's your entire set up for under $250

If you do want an actual generator, I would suggest buying it now. Last year the power cuts started around March, right? After one week all of the shops were sold out, and when restocked the prices were double. So, I've heard mixed things on what to expect this year in regard to power outages, but better safe than sorry.

Generators are too noisy. Get a UPS. For around a $100 you can get one that will run a computer, router and a fan. It will be easy to sell if you leave.
I think there are going to be serious problems with electricity shortages this year. Vietnam doesn't have enough coal and there hasn't been a lot of rain for hydro generation.
I was in Laos a couple of days ago and same problem with dams there and Laos is the "battery" for the region.

Lots of expats buy generators then get them home start them then realise;
A) They make a shit load of noise
B) They vibrate
C) They smell
Then they sell them.
If you live in a condo/flat you can’t use them. If you have neighbours you can’t use them (so anywhere in PP/SR/Kampot etc).
They’re only possible if you live in the sticks or buy one for your neighborhood to use in which case a 6kw $600 one won’t be enough.
Oh and all the Yokohama/Honda ones I’ve seen are fake. Yokohama don’t even make generators that small!

Maybe you could come and give this message to my neighbours....YaTingPom wrote:

4 houses in my borey street have big diesel chugging generators.
They seem to be more than happy to run them all night long if they feel like it.

Just be thankful the noise annoys them...over the swish of the fans and hum of the air con.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Maybe you could come and give this message to my neighbours....YaTingPom wrote:
