Is only having a Cambodian bike license good enough for western insurance companies? Surely, it would be only good enough for Cambodian insurance.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 8:47 amWhat?kungfufighter wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 10:08 pmPossibly invalidate anything but Cambodian insurance though?

Up the workers!
Your insurance is invalidated if you are breaking the laws of the country you are in.kungfufighter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:17 amIs only having a Cambodian bike license good enough for western insurance companies? That depends entirely on the small print and varies with each company.kungfufighter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:17 amIs only having a Cambodian bike license good enough for western insurance companies? Generally you’re required to have a local licence and/or hold a licence back home for that category of bike.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
Theoretically the Cambo licence is accepted throughout Asean so worth getting as your insurance company should accept you are not breaking the law around the region.
Oh look. Richard is now here mentioning Thailand in every reply.Phuket2006 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:00 ami am totally amazed at you all claiming its a great deal .
My $400 10 year seems like a bargain now
or I guess $150 for a cat B is pretty good value.
Cambodia ranks as one of the poorest countries in the world yet seems to be of the most expensive to get a drivers license.
( i can only compare it to CA USA $30 for 5 years, Thailand $16 for 5 years,)
I wonder what % of khmer's hold one
I can’t tell if you’ve quoted me or are saying you’ve paid $400 for a ten year etc but I’ll attempt to help your old frazzled brain out.
Locals don’t pay $30. That’s for jolly foreigners. Locals pay $13.50 for 10 years, so much cheaper than your beloved Thailand.
Some of us don’t live in Thailand (and drone on about it constantly. We get it it’s amazing etc) so have no choice on spending $30, $150 or even $400.
If I had to get a yearly licence (to stay legal) I’d pay $30 plus fuel costs (get this. I own a car) to PP and probably stay overnight l, plus food and then drive back again. So $40 for a year is pretty fucking good I’d say.
I’ve been to Thailand many times. I couldn’t give a flying fuck if Cambodia was ten times more expensive and 20 times dirtier/underdeveloped/backwards than Thailand.
I’m here because of the Cambodian people. Thais have never been this kind and happy. Ever.

Has the price for the test and 10 year license increased also?
A couple of years back it was only something like 20 quid to do the theory and practical test. Cant remember how much exactly but i remember it being much cheaper than I expected.
Spending half a day doing the test and getting a 10 year license may now be more attractive than 30 quid a pop every year.

It was the same price as locals pay, around $13.50 or something.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:20 pmHas the price for the test and 10 year license increased also?

In my experience (from what other expats who’ve attempted it) you won’t get it all done in one day. It requires multiple trips and they will fail you for any errors.

And are they now letting foreigners pass?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:20 pmHas the price for the test and 10 year license increased also?

Word had it that when they had to stop taking facilitation payments they were failing everyone. Whitey, that is.
I doubt whitey was a very good revenue stream anyway.RobW wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:34 pmAnd are they now letting foreigners pass?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:20 pmHas the price for the test and 10 year license increased also?

what no mention about Ca?
Some of us dont attack others for their posts...
in the past month in all my posts, i have mentioned thailand ONCE
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
You just did it again.Phuket2006 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 2:30 pm

I don't understand this.Spigzy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:09 amIt all depends on circumstance- if I were staying here another 10 years I’d agree; do the test and pay the $450. If you’re here just for a couple more years, then save yourself the hassle of the MPWT morons at Aeon 2/ test centre plus the hours wasted and spunk out for $150 each year.
The test is nowhere near 450 quid. Unless the price has shot up recently... its not even 10% of 450!
Also, renewal costs around 30quid (previously 12.50 I think) and when I did it last at aeon 2 it was a breeze... I bought a large browns coffee on the way in and my license was ready before my coffee was finished.
Are lucky charging 150 quid for a license renewal???
