Phnom Penh Hornbills
Phnom Penh Hornbills
There seems to be only one that visits the back of my house now.
Somebody told me one got electrocuted.
Is this true?
Damn shame if so as I'd hoped they would breed.

Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.
There's still one from the pair that used to visit me most mornings.
Edit: And the missing one isn't that one in the photo above. They have or had white bills.

There's a well-known tycoon who keeps a few, I've seen about 4 of them flying around near Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital.

When I saw the title,, I was hoping the thread was about picking up the tab at Phnom Penh girly bars.

That would be Oriental Pied Hornbills. Much smaller and can actually survive in pretty disturbed habitat.

Still nice that the two came back together after a long absence.Hanno wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 7:17 amThat would be Oriental Pied Hornbills. Much smaller and can actually survive in pretty disturbed habitat.
Do you reckon one was staying with the eggs or something?

Could well be. Hornbills have a very unique breeding strategy: the male and female basically cements the female into the nest cavity, closing the hole with mud and pulp and just leaving a space to feed the female and the chicks. Once the chicks are too big, the female will break the wall and move out.
