I'm looking to make the move next year ahead of selling my house which I'm closing in on now.
I'm working out what's best to put in storage and ship over, or what's best to sell now and save on storage costs between now and shipping.
Are there taxes when importing possessions? Has anyone done this and been hit with bribes to get access to your stuff when it arrives there?
Are electronics generally more expensive? I have a new TV, is it best to sell now and buy a new one there? Is good furniture more expensive there?
I appreciate any advice you can offer.
Thanks!

Yes there's taxes.
If you have cambodian family member who's name you can moving goods then doesn't need to pay import tax.
My advice.
Sell everything, bring only essential.
Weather here is very bad for books, clothes etc. it's so moisture and hot.

Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
Thanks for the replies. Very helpful!
One thing I was weary about was selling my electronics, then finding out TVs are double the cost over there.
That said, if I can save a couple of hundred bucks on storage costs then it'd pay for itself I guess.

On the TV side, unless you have professional movers handling everything with insurance I would definitely advise against it. Fine to purchase here. (And if you’re American you’d have to worry about the converter too.) Small electronics like laptops are a bit more here so if you want to make that purchase make it before coming. Furniture.... well there’s no IKEA here or other large brands. If you like big wooden couches without cousions you’ll be happy, but other than that...
Do you already have accommodation arranged here? That would be a big deciding factor I would think.

rend a fully furnished condo for 500 usd/month or even less and it will have tv, etc possibly free wifi too
was paying 7USD/night FOR ROOM WITH free wifi at 4mb/sec, wall mounted wide tv, in room shower/toilet, double bed, window, large table, nice staff, close to supermarkets and market etc

Re. Furniture yeah it's very easy to find real cheap crap stuff, and dead easy to find horrible, heavy, OTT, expensive furniture. But the stuff in the middle is more difficult to locate.Miguelito wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 8:55 amOn the TV side, unless you have professional movers handling everything with insurance I would definitely advise against it. But it is here, albeit tricky to find.
Facebook was my friend and i was eventually able to find some decent quality but affordable household furniture.
e.g. Complete bedroom furniture sets (minus mattress) for less than a grand. Sofa set for around $700.

And this place (or maybe the place nextdoor it)

Also dead easy to get good quality, customizable wooden furniture made at very affordable price - maybe 300 quid for a dining table and chairs/bench. On sothearos near chamkarmon stop.
This is great, all very helpful. I've got a few bits that I'll need to bring, so will make sure I get a few step down converters.
I haven't got anywhere to live as yet. Going to keep stuff in storage and travel about a bit until Covid has calmed down a bit.
Thank you!
