What happens after a positive Covid test?
Today, in an hour or so, I hope to get tested, in order to be allowed to board my flight back to Germany tomorrow.
Just wondering now, what would happen if I test positive? Never really considered that possibility. Where would I be put in quarantine? And how long does that last? I suppose one would get tested regularly, and after some negative tests one would be released? But how long does that usually take?
Just want to be mentally prepared, just in case.

I’m guessing you’d be put into quarantine and tested again. Wether that’s a hotel or your own home, assuming you don’t live in a hotel already which would probably get lockdown.
The short answer is you’d miss your flight.

Yeah, I'm wondering where I would be put in quarantine.
In some expensive hotel that I'd have to pay would be quite a bummer.
At my apartment now, I'd be okay with that if I could stock up on food and caffeine and cigarettes before. But I don't think that I'd be granted that luxury. Or is that how it goes?
I doubt they’d just smile, say “Oh look. You have COVID” and let you be on your way. You’d be moved to some facility somewhere.trollkotze wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 10:27 amYeah, I'm wondering where I would be put in quarantine.

PSD-Kiwi will be along shortly to give a detailed reply.

Isnt quarantine just for suspected cases. For a confirmed positive cases, you be taken off to one of the government facilities.
Maybe as a foreigner you might be lucky and be taken to a hospital. But if not then its one of the conference venues in diamond island or the big place opposite aeon 2 which has been taken over as a treatment centre.

Not sure exactly how it is working now, up until a few weeks ago every single person who tested positive was hospitalised, but obviously they don't have enough space in the hospitals now, they have set up make-shift treatment facilities for those who test positive, but they have also mentioned self-isolation and treatment at home for those with minor symptoms. I'd imagine the MoH assess the required measures on a case-by-case basis to determine the appropriate course of action.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
If tested positive, you get the doctors on visit before you can collect your paperwork. No visit, then you are negative, so to say.trollkotze wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 6:37 amToday, in an hour or so, I hope to get tested, in order to be allowed to board my flight back to Germany tomorrow.

As PSD wrote, in the past, you would be taken to a hospital, though they are out of space now. I did see a story somewhere of somebody testing positive some moment during quarantine and got locked up in an expensive hotel on own dime, not even allowed out, after testing negative again. Though, that might be a Facebook horrid story.
I certainly would consider disappearing for 15-17 days, in case I test positive (of course in a proper and safe quarantine), to avoid all the expensive hassle the government puts on you. With clear instructions to only bring me to a hospital, in case things go really bad with me. So, consider to stay your last night in PP at a different location, where you do not get registered. Turn off your registered phone, to avoid EMEI tracking and ask the neighbors, whether the doctors showed up at your doorstep
Though, on the other hand, realistically there is only a random chance of less than 0.1% or so, you did meet somebody Covid-19 positive, let alone get infected yourself from that event (unless you worked in a garment factory or stayed in a local market). So, maybe the Tuk-Tuk bringing you to the airport might be more of a traffic danger........

That's really, really stupid advice from v12
The clinic will inform authorities about your positive test and if you disappear then they will throw the book at you when you turn up. You will do time in prison then be deported.
Be clever, don't be like V12.

Too late. I already got my result back and it's negative. :*(v12 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 5:26 pmI certainly would consider disappearing for 15-17 days, in case I test positive (of course in a proper and safe quarantine), to avoid all the expensive hassle the government puts on you. Take care to make a copy of your ticket and PCR result and give it to the taxi driver, bringing you to the airport, so s/he does have papers to show, for his/her return.

I really am not looking forward to going back now.
One week ago I was desperate to get away from here.
Now my AC is working again.
Now I've got the ticket, got the test result. My parents are urging me to come back amidst the Covid panic.
And that's actually what prompts me most to think that it would be so much less stressful to just stay here. I think the Covid restrictions in Germany will be much more annoying and long-lasting.

Yes and no. Depending on where you live in Germany, risks are still pretty relaxed. Angela got her "be the boss" law and now can lock down everywhere, though several states are still low risk. Though, with these lock-downs, you are still allowed to get food, etc.trollkotze wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 7:49 pmI really am not looking forward to going back now.

On the other hand, I give it 100% chance, that Phnom Penh will continue the lock-down for another 2+2 weeks and I would not be surprised, when this would become 2+2+2+2+2 at the minimum. And I also give it a >50% chance that there will be more overnight Red Zones instated, maybe even at the end of the upcoming week.
Given the recent explosion of positive cases, the death rate will go up too (lags roughly 2-3 weeks behind the Covid-19 infection). Currently topping at 10 for today, though that could go easily into the 30 to 50 a day. A situation, which may create another government panic, with more lock-downs (Western countries already learned, the lock-down effects take 1-2 weeks to become a little visible).
The good thing though is, the exponential growth seems to have stopped. The next couple of days probably several days with high figures, due to the 100% test coverage in the Red Zones, though let us hope, that'll be the peak.
So, going to Germany might be less stress-full than staying in Phnom Penh
Just take care to do the 1.5m social distancing, that'll be your best protection during travel.
Going back to Germany was the second dumbest decision of my life.
Fuck this.
Fuck this.
