Aircon
Aircon
I am considering moving to Cambodia and I noticed the no AC in the house thing. Are you guys using portable units or how are you guys cooling your homes? Are you using a service? I want to know how to do it before I bail on the whole Idea, because I can’t live without AC
And getting a new one isn't very expensive, from 200-250 for a regular sized room including delivery and setup
?? I can't think of a house I've been to that doesn't have aircon, unless you're talking wooden shacks out in the sticks? Even so, I don't know where you got the idea Cambodians don't have aircon; my problem is getting them to turn it off!Christy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 1:16 amI noticed the no AC in the house thing.

Never turn the air con on. I don't like it , prefer fans and open windows, cheaper and more natural plus the added benefit of dispersing Covid particles. Stepped out of my bubble a few nights ago and went to a mates place for a meet up, Four of us in his apartment , pizza n beer , balcony doors open and fans blowing, no need for air con at all and to be honest if the doors had been shut and the air con turned on, I really wouldn't have felt comfortable.
If you can't live without air con, then perhaps you shouldn't live in the tropics!

k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Yeah, the office was miserably cold. I had a jacket to wear and I taped the vent shut that was near me. It never made much sense to me how the Khmer staff loved the damned AC so much when growing up in this climate.Spigzy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 2:45 am?? The other whitey on the floor also taped the vent shut.

aircon improves life, just as electricity does. Should we tolerate 35-40C (or freezing weather in Europe/UK etc) when it's so easy to be more comfortable?
I think many Khmer use aircon to show off wealth, just like they use clown cars and oversize gold watches. From my own experience, the workers at my last job opened all the doors and turned off the aircon. I actually prefer it, too, but there are days in April and May when it's simply too hot.
Well said, absolutely a status thing. Annoys me when they leave my AC running then put on their PJs as they're too cold. I think Horace just wants to shit on the idea of refrigerated cooling as he can't afford to run AC.bargain basement wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 7:46 amFTFY
