Not a lawyer but I am still miffed that you are asking for free legal advice. I mean, they spend a lot of time and money learning the trade; why should the give information for free? My grandfather was a Doctor and really did not like people asking him for medical advice at social gatherings (this was obviously before Facebook, which is awash with "doctors".)

Well, my grandfather was a judge and he did not like "virtuous" people judging others without all the evidence (this was obviously before Facebook, which is awash with "judges" and the 'virtuous".)My grandfather was a Doctor and really did not like people asking him for medical advice at social gatherings (this was obviously before Facebook, which is awash with "doctors".)

My grandfather was a prick but he had no such qualms about others being a prick.Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 5:55 pmWell, my grandfather was a judge and he did not like "virtuous" people judging others without all the evidence (this was obviously before Facebook, which is awash with "judges" and the 'virtuous".)My grandfather was a Doctor and really did not like people asking him for medical advice at social gatherings (this was obviously before Facebook, which is awash with "doctors".)
So, please, carry on.
So sorry to hear of your miffed-ness.
Are you also miffed at the Labor Department in Cambodia, which gives free legal advice daily?
And pro-bono lawyers?
Sorry that you don't understand that a response is voluntary, which presupposes advice is given free and voluntarily. Difficult concept?
At least one lawyer on here (gavinmac), frequently gives advice free, send him notice that you're miffed. iirc, scobienz would do it too, not sure if he's a lawyer, but he worked for some.
The thread on humphrey is awash with free legal advice, send them all miffed notices, LOL
That was a weird and out of character comment from Hanno and it’s not often I would side with vlad over him, but we live in strange times.
The fact is nobody here is entitled to give legal advice, unless you’re admitted to the Cambodian bar. People can of course give an opinion based on their limited legal knowledge but it’s not worth anything. That’s what several people have done. And of course the OP is free to ignore or accept it at his or her own risk.

We all know that contracts here are unilateral, I have heard of only once case in over 15 years where a teacher won a dispute through Labour Department. She was paid around $4000 for unfair dismissal, iirc.
My point is more of a selective ethics dilemma, i.e. schools are meant to instil morality, ethics and respect for the law. Teachers are often told to (or always expected to) do likewise, and I'm totally fine with that.
Is it too much to expect their employers to exhibit the same respect for the law?
Have always respected Hanno, but even friends and family have differences of opinion. It's soon forgotten.

This isn’t a social gathering. I occasionally answer IT related questions online for free out of a basic level of kindness. Sometimes I ignore them. I don’t think I’ve ever lashed out at someone just for asking.Hanno wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 5:21 pmNot a lawyer but I am still miffed that you are asking for free legal advice. I knew a couple of teachers here who sued for wrongful dismissal. One got about $15,000 and the other got around $10,000.

That’s pretty impressive, you’d be lucky to get that in the UK in similar circumstances.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 5:14 pmI knew a couple of teachers here who sued for wrongful dismissal. One got about $15,000 and the other got around $10,000.
