It is surprising to hear that Cambodia does not have parks. I guess people just walk around the city or go to the beach.

I wish I could walk around the city. Pretty much everything I need would be within walking distance of my apartment, if it wasn’t for the pavements all being blocked by SUV wankers and shops marking their territory with pot plants.CharmingOwl wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 5:16 amIt is surprising to hear that Cambodia does not have parks. Walking anywhere in PP is like crossing a road 1km wide.

That’s a pretty accurate comparison.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 10:00 amWalking anywhere in PP is like crossing a road 1km wide.CharmingOwl wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 5:16 amIt is surprising to hear that Cambodia does not have parks. My neighbourhood just excelled itself - walking back home tonight, not only was the pavement blocked with the usual cars, and someone else parked their SUV on the road in front of them, but a third person had triple parked their SUV right across the middle lane of the road as well.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 10:00 am

That’s a three lane highway with pavement parking next to it, with only one lane still open to traffic cause some lazy bellend didn’t want to walk literally 10 extra metres. The fucking entitlement on these people. I’m baffled how their cars haven’t all been keyed by now.
It's not a city that's very good for walking, but I still do it a lot at the moment. I don't have a safe place to park a motorbike and the cops are too hungry for foreigners. So I go to the store and take a tuktuk back. It's doable, but not very comfortable. Too damp and having to walk on a road that some drivers like to speed past at close range or honk their horns for no other reason than to unnecessarily pollute their surroundings with stress. But still far from impossible.

Walking is bullshit here. Unless you like walking on the road.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Before Covid it was full of backpacker type tourists walking the streets all over the city. Not only were they on their feet on the street, they were usually all sunburnt from not covering up.
Sometimes I miss the fun factor of mass tourism, but mostly not.

Are you talking about somewhere other than PP?
I don’t ever remember PP being full of walking backpackers.
Maybe only in a few specific locations…
Yeah, especially on streets like 310 etc. venturing into the 'dark' areas beyond west of Monivong. You've been?
They would of course not carry their backpacks, just wearing beach style vacation apparel, and cooked like lobsters looking awfully tired and wasted..

I'm good with it. It's fairly good exercise, just a few miles will give you a good sweat. You see more detail and often notice things you didn't do before when riding a moto. There is always something to entertain you, and keeping and eye out for your rear perimeter is skill building imo. I also noticed that you get around fairly fast, as you can cut corners like no one else at times. It's fun to challenge the shopkeepers and their turf. Attitudes vary greatly I've noticed. Just the status crap that people pull that annoys me. Not feeling any safety concerns really. Cheers

PP not the best city to walk, but it's not that bad. I walk everywhere centrally (between TTP and Riverside)if I have the time and not going to a meeting.
Never had an issue. The map will say xkm but add on about 30% to that from going in and out of the roads dodging parked cars and street stalls etc, but always interesting
Siem Reap is a nice place to walk now. They even have footpaths!
