Internet speed and television options in KoW
I was thinking of relocating back to the KoW. I haven't lived there since 2017. What is the internet speed like now? It would be good if it could support Teams and other such features of office life taken for granted where I am. My boss might let me keep working if the internet would support this. Since that pandemic thing I work from home mostly anyway, so why not from over there? Then I cold earn money while living somewhere, er, much more interesting.
Also, television. What are the alternatives to watching PPCTV and whatever that other one is that purports to provide sport and movies but does little of either and has no schedule whatsoever, so it's all a lottery of pretty barren fare usually with awful reception? Are there any? I hope so, as that's pretty awful. Movies, football etc.. the joys of modern life for a fan of the beautiful game. Any insights welcome.

Just subscribe to an IPTV service. Simple. You need an app on a Smart TV or fire stick and then you can choose from hundreds of IPTV providers. I pay $59 for two years for around 8000 channels from all around the world including all the paid channels in places like U.K. and US. Plus thousands of new release movies and full series on demand.Bill Shakey wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 8:14 amI was thinking of relocating back to the KoW. I haven't lived there since 2017. I use a Smart @Home WiFi box with a backup of an Android phone set up for tethering using the Smart StreamOn8 plan. I find these work perfectly well for streaming Netflix, Amazon, Google Play, etc. For sports I tend still to go out as I want a bit of atmos for football, etc, but I'm sure there must be options for that also.
I also use the same setup for work with MS Teams or Zoom for video calls, all good.

“From November 11, 2022, new subscribers and subscribers of Smart Laor! will no longer be able to subscribe to this plan.”
What’s the download/upload speed for StreamOn8 as it doesn’t say, unlike Smart@Home which is clearly listed?
I need 20mbs for VoIP calls.

I was living in Kep an had Metfone fiber to my house
speed was 20 mbs up and down for $15/month
PLUS they gave me 2 gigs of data /month for my sim
plenty fast enough to watch tv/news/movies using my android box, ( highly recommended and its free) using kodi and the Nightwing and Asgard add ons
and download from pirate bay
reason being very few people used fiber to their homes as everyone sues their phones
I pay 600 baht now here in phuket, for 200 mbs and its not really any faster

I tried kodi and various add ons a few years back.
Ok for movies/series, but for live tv it was a pain in the ass. When I wanted to watch football I had to spend the first 20 minutes finding a stable stream. I got a bit fed up and finally gave up wasting time on it.
I now use iptv and it’s been great for me. Similar to what I expected kodi add-ons but it’s got a fairly easy GUI and is stable for movies, series, catch-up tv and live tv. It offers SD, HD and SuperHD. It’s easy enough to use that my wife and kid can fire it up without supervision now (though it admittedly took a while for my wife to ‘get it’)
I pay annually but I think it’s something like $8 per month for 2 devices. I use it on my smart tv and on my ipad.
I think it does require a pretty decent internet speed though. I use Ezecom 30Mb connection and it costs $18 per month, again paid annually. I might upgrade to their 50Mb option, currently $30 per month at next renewal though.

Cellcard used to be decent but I've been finding out it now sucks big time, both in coverage and in reliability
Earmark this thread. It’s the first occurrence in 440 history that Richard made a Cambodia / Thailand comparison where the latter wasn’t a hundred times better than the former.
Our Opennet changed to Ezecom and it sucks. Since a few days an average 4% package loss. Many sites work only after refreshing, yt keeps buffering, gaming is impossible. Rebooted the modem/AP multiple times but it is something upstream but hey, the helpdesk needs to run their scripts. No solution yet. Could not find any recent undersea cable cut.
Problem is there is not much left since they cracked down...

You should search better (this cost me 3 seconds to find):admins wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 1:56 pmCould not find any recent undersea cable cut.

I’ve got the Openet package that should have expired four months ago!
Still going but have to reboot the router often.

Long time Ezecom customer here - it's shit for us too. What's happened here is not an equipment failure, over-capacity or anything like that - it's a human resource failure. Ezecom absorbed not only thousands of extra customers, but 800 new staff. They're not doing a great job integrating them, and there are constant human failures. I assume it will take quite some time to iron out all these issues.admins wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 1:56 pmOur Opennet changed to Ezecom and it sucks. Since a few days an average 4% package loss. Cable cuts were always my bug bear with Ezecom - and not their fault I'd hasten to add. Just so much chaotic road & infrastructure projects going on in those days that it was hard to go a fortnight without the service being interrupted because some twonk just cut through a cable.
I've stayed wireless ever since, and the 4G etc speeds in the Kingdom of Wonder really are pretty damn good for just about anything, and cheap as chips if compared to other countries too. Enjoy it while it lasts, as soon as a regulator fat cat with a smaller Lexus than his neighbour finds out there is some more fat to be had from consumers, they'll be piling in with additional taxes that'll get passed on to us plebs.
