Respectfully, I don't think that either the Ukraine or western media have presented anything even vaguely approaching a fair narrative. This is pretty much common knowledge. It serves both Ukraine's interests and NATO's interests that the long-dead bogeyman of Russian imperialism is revived. And I doubt that NATO, headed by America, has much room to talk about imperialism.Prahok wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:28 pmI was referring to the Ukrainian narrative revolving around Russia engaging in a war of expansion, which Ukraine have successfully kept in the global media (in response to !LL1OAGCgl6 commenting that Western media evades the prospect of a Russian victory). Whether Russia wants a return to imperialism or not, the annexation of territory reinforces the Ukrainian narrative.
Pretty sure Russia's intentions are not pure, but how would we know? There's barely a single non-Russian source that dares to oppose the western/Ukrainian narrative.
The west/Ukraine even went after HRW for publishing facts about BOTH sides using civilian sites to stage attacks from.
Let's condemn war crimes by both sides. I think a non-biased report will find that both sides have behaved abominably wrt ignoring the safety of civilians and deliberately use schools, apartments and hospitals as military support and bases for attacks, knowing that it puts the enemy in a Catch-22 situation.

Who here truly believes the spoon-fed over many years narrative?
Or do you believe the Putin one, but not the Xi one?
I find it quite shocking, There is obviously a much bigger narrative going on here.
If you understand anything about economics and history, you must surely keep a large part of your judgement in reserve.

By feeding the trolls you're opening up a huge can of worms.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 7:21 pmSo what's this much bigger narrative, then?Dogsdick wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 5:35 pmWho here truly believes the spoon-fed over many years narrative?

As with springrain, so with Hot Pink and the other crazies.
They know because they’re smart believing the crazy YouTubers. They think critically, yet swallow up anything some idiot says so long as it’s their narrative they’re being fed. The rest of us are sheep
Isn’t it ironic. . ..

How would we know? There is footage and narrative coming from both sides, we aren't all restricted to cable TV anymore. I fail to see what "pure intentions" could be behind the invasion and systematic destruction of a sovereign nation. What are you implying that we have all missed? Seems quite patronizing.dogwalk wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:52 pm

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
One possibility is that it sees itself as being targeted by Western powers. When world economies are set to implode, everything is seen as up for grabs to the best players.Tweedledem wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 8:13 amThe USSR (15 republics, which included Ukraine, comprising nearly 130 ethnic groups) disbanded itself, it was not disbanded due to any western military pressure. It was simply too expensive and too difficult to govern different groups who didn't want to be governed by anybody they saw as not related 100% to them. Ukraine was liberated by Russia towards the end of WW2, and the majority, barring Nazi sympathizers and collaborators, were very glad to be liberated, but things change. I really doubt Russia wants a return to expensive, ineffective and conflict-ridden imperialism.
In rea, ity, megalomania is the driving force behind Putin and the present crew in charge. Their answer to the perceived threat they believe exists, is expanding the border. This is nothing new for Russia, as mentioned earlier in this thread.Dogsdick wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 1:58 amOne possibility is that it sees itself as being targeted by Western powers. As news comes of some EU countries preparing to supply long range missiles and strike aircraft to Ukraine, I do think it is too late, albeit not rea.ly the solution either.
I think he means research and find out both sides of the argument, don't just accept what western media say.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 12:28 amWhat are you implying that we have all missed? Seems quite patronizing.
Pretty standard (but archaic, and seldom practised anymore) principle of decent journalism, hardly patronising, imo
