Asian beliefs
Never mind on the technological and scientific advancement. Some Asian countries still clinging onto the ancient beliefs that consuming certain parts an animal help to cure sicknesses and diseases. But most of those animals aren't abundance and considered unique, and sometimes the practice of slaughtering them is utterly cruel. For example, a Cambodian woman caught bringing in tiger's penis at NZ custom, her excuse? It helps to cure her disease (mad bitch), Koreans battering dogs, the more it suffocates the tastier the meat and ultimately it gives you sexual adrenaline. Or the Chinese gulping on monkeys' brain while its eyes are still blinking because it considered a delicacy.
I just read Time magazine this month's issue on endangered rhinos, it's a lucrative business, there are huge demands for it Vietnam because Rhino horns believed to cure cancer because their ancestors said so. The biggest culprits are the Vietnamese officials. If you look into cartoons and animations, most Asian countries adore animals such as dogs, cats, dolphins, tigers etc. On a rational level one might think such adoration leads to care and protection. But no! It is the opposite in reality.

Australia is just as bad with our live animal export.
Sheep from Australia are slaughtered in the Middle East after enduring grueling journeys on extremely crowded, disease-ridden ships. The voyage can last weeks, and the sheep can be exposed to all weather extremes.
Many sheep fall ill or starve to death because they are unused to the pellet food provided onboard. Lame sheep are trampled, unable to lift their faces from the feces-laden floors. The extremely crowded conditions and heat stress can lead to diseases such as conjunctivitis ("pink eye") and salmonellosis.
And have you heard of Mulesing?
Australian ranchers perform a barbaric procedure called "mulesing," in which they force live sheep onto their backs, restrain their legs between metal bars, and, often without any painkillers whatsoever, carve huge chunks of skin away from the animals' backsides or attach attach vise-like clamps to their flesh until it dies and sloughs off. Both procedures are terribly painful.
Cruelty to animals makes me sick, but sadly it's not isolated to Asian Countries.

But didn't I read somewhere that Australia is banning live animal exports to Indonesia ( I think it was) on account of the cruel treatment that country deals out to animals? Australian farmers do seem to be making a stand.
Yes, it's nasty & barbaric. But there are ways that are less cruel and painful. I'm sure. Beats me how many Asian countries call themselves 'Buddhist' then can mistreat animals so badly. In Thailand, one often sees trucks packed with squealing pigs crushed in in such a way that the poor blighters can't help but trample on one another in the desperate struggle to survive. It's horrible and needs to be stopped, pronto!

You're wrong, they fucking hate all those animals in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Turkmenistan and Mongolia.flying chicken wrote:If you look into cartoons and animations, most Asian countries adore animals such as dogs, cats, dolphins, tigers etc.

Though i agree with you that mistreatment of animals is unconscionable, i think you seriously missed the point. Malpractice in the farming industry is a totally different kettle of fish from the systematic eradication of endangered species often for little more than their penis, horn, fin or gall bladder due to superstitions that fly in the face of all medical and scientific knowledge. Superstitions that are often not held by the end consumers who only consume/procure the end product as a way to show of to their peers. Or in other cases fueled by penile insecurities.MissTara wrote:Australia is just as bad with our live animal export.

Perhaps the WWF could save the world's endangered species by giving every Asian male a life time supply of viagra.

It's worth keeping in mind that within living memory, Rhinos and Tigers etc weren't thought of by Cambodians as cute cartoons, they were feared as dangerous animals that would most likely kill you if you wandered too far into a forest.

Australians don't want to slaughter the cattle themselves, so they export this little bit of the equation. It's probably been going on for a while, have Austalians noticed a change in taste or something?

'they were feared as dangerous animals'
Flying chicken, show me a Khmer coming across an adult tiger in it's natural habitat who thinks it's cute, and I'll show you a candidate for a psychiatric hospital.(or city planner).

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

Vladamir, reread my 2 posts in this thread to where I said that.
A million time more knowledgeable? Meaning what? You know the Khmer society better than I do? This might come a surprise to you, I know every shortcuts, streets and roads in my neck of the wood, I know best places to hangout in Seoul, I know where to go and what to do in Siem Reap. Why? Because I spent my time there and explored the areas.
Me pretending to be Khmer? You come off like a straight dickhead -- dont put words in my mouth of me claiming to be from elsewhere.
