Two people have been killed and five others injured in a shooting that took place during a high school graduation ceremony in Richmond, Virginia.
The shooting outside the Atria Theater sent students in graduation gowns running for safety, US media reports.
School officials say the shooting took place during a ceremony for the Huguenot High School.
Another graduation scheduled for Tuesday was been postponed and all classes are cancelled on Wednesday.
The victims who killed were an 18-year-old man who was part of the graduating class and his 36-year-old father, police say. Police have not yet released their identities.
A 19-year-old suspect has been taken into custody, according to Interim Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards. He said that police believe that he knew at least one of the victims.
Another person was found armed with a handgun and was initially detained, but police now believe he was not involved in the attack.
The shooting took place in Monroe Park after the ceremony had ended at the Virginia Commonwealth University campus.
"Is nothing sacred any longer?" Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney asked at a news conference.
"A child should be able to go their graduation and walk at their graduation and enjoy the accomplishment with their friends and families," he said, calling the shooting a "selfish act".
In an alert sent to students on Tuesday, the university said that police were on the scene to respond to the shooting.
"There is no ongoing threat to the community but there is a heavy police presence at Monroe Park," the alert said.
Chief Edwards added that three off-duty officers were working inside the theater and seven more were stationed outside to direct traffic when the shots broke out.
At 17:13 local time (22:13GMT), police in the building reported hearing shots outside, he said.
As well as five injured by gunfire, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, two people suffered falls and a nine-year old girl "was hit by a car during the melee", he continued.
Superintendent of Richmond Public Schools Jason Kamras said the attack occurred on what "is supposed to be a joyous day when our kids walk the stage and get their diploma".
"I don't have any more words on this I'm tired of seeing people get shot, our kids get shot and I beg of the entire community to stop," he continued.

Parking lot gathering shooting leaves 1 dead and 22 people hurt in suburban Chicago
At least 23 people were shot, one fatally, during a gathering in a parking lot that drew hundreds of people in a suburban town southwest of Chicago early Sunday, authorities said.
The mass shooting took place in a parking lot in a strip mall in Willowbrook, Illinois, shortly before 12:30 a.m., Battalion Chief Joe Ostrander with the Tri-State Fire Protection District told WGN, a Chicago-area news station. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office said hundreds of people were at the “peaceful gathering” to celebrate Juneteenth before multiple shots were fired into the crowd.
2 die in shooting at Beyond Wonderland electronic music festival
In Washington State, two people were killed and three injured in a shooting near a campground where many people were staying to attend a two-day music festival.
Organizers of the Beyond Wonderland electronic music festival said the second day of events at the Gorge Amphitheatre were canceled. Concert organizers described the location as an “overflow camping area.”
The incident began at 8:23 pm on Saturday, said Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
“The shooter walked away from where the incident happened,” Foreman said in a news conference televised by KING-TV. “The shooter continued to shoot randomly into the crowd. The suspect was eventually taken into custody.
The shooter was one of the people injured and was shot during a confrontation with law enforcement, Foreman said.
The names and conditions of the victims were not immediately available.
While a public alert had warned there was an active shooter in the area and advised people to “run, hide or fight,” Foreman said there was no effort to evacuate the festival. Festival activities continued following the shooting and did not end until early Sunday morning, Foreman said.
The festival is hosted annually at the Gorge Amphitheatre along the Columbia River Gorge.
St. Louis shooting kills one teen; 9 others wounded
In St. Louis, a shooting at 1:03 a.m. Sunday killed one person and injured 10, half of whom were under the age of 18, Police Chief Robert Tracy said in a news briefing Sunday afternoon aired by KMVO television.
A 17-year-old boy died in the attack and police had one person in custody but more arrests were also possible, Tracy said. The incident occurred in the downtown area on the fifth floor of an office building that police believe was being used as a party site.
“Our officers arrived and observed a large number of individuals running from the building,” Tracy said. Officers recovered multiple firearms from the scene, including AR-style rifle pistols and a handgun, Tracy added.
All but one of the injured were hit with gunfire.
“A 17-year-old female was possibly trampled coming down the stairs, running from the scene and has serious injuries to her spine at this time,” he said.
Tracy said the department is still investigating what happened and what the event was but said several witnesses told officers it was not spontaneous.
Half of those injured lived outside the city of St. Louis, Tracy said. Both he and St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones said at the briefing there is an ongoing problem with juveniles coming into downtown St. Louis late at night.
“Downtown is not a 1 a.m. destination for your 15-year-old. It’s not a place to drop children off unsupervised,” Jones said.

A 2-year-old boy fatally shot his pregnant mother in Ohio, police say
A 2-year-old boy in Norwalk, Ohio, shot his pregnant mother in the back, killing her and the unborn child, police say.
Police received a call just after 1 p.m. on June 16 from the 31-year-old mother, who said she was “shot in the back by her 2-year-old son,” according to a news release from the Norwalk Police Department.
She also informed the dispatcher she was eight months pregnant, the release said. Moments later, her husband called 911 and stated “he received a phone call from his wife ‘screaming something about my son and needing to call 911.’”
Officers arrived at the house and forced entry through a locked front door, according to the release.
Both the mother and her son “were found in the upstairs master bedroom, along with” a pistol, the release said.
The son was removed from the room at the request of his mother, and officers rendered aid.
The mother was “fully conscious” and gave officers a “complete account of the events that occurred,” according to authorities. Her husband, who is 28, later also arrived at the home.
The mother was transported to a medical center where an emergency C-section was performed. The unborn son was later pronounced dead, followed by the mother.
The weapon, along with a spent shell casing, was seized from the home, police said, adding that the pistol’s magazine was loaded with an additional 12 rounds.
The Norwalk Police Department’s detective bureau executed a search warrant and found a number of child safety features in the home, including safety gates at almost every doorway and child locks on all drawers, the release said.
During their search, detectives seized an additional 12-round magazine for the pistol that the 2-year-old had gotten hold of in a nightstand in the master bedroom. They also discovered a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun with six rounds in the master bedroom closet and an airsoft rifle in the computer room closet.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. No charges have been filed at this time, according to the release, and the case will be forwarded to Huron County Prosecutor’s Office.

Why the fuck is there an unsecured pistol with one in the chamber and an additional 12 rounds in the mag laying on the nightstand in a home with a toddler?
What are these morons so scared of that they don’t have time to retrieve their securely stored weapons? Do they have monsters under the bed or something?

In case you're all wondering how we're doing over here, I didn't even know about this mass shooting until this afternoon. That's how normal it's become, it's no longer breaking news. It's just another day.
I hate it here. We're a failed state.
