Second one dips a little, third is terrific. Reviews said second series disappointing but i found all three to be brilliant.vladimir wrote:Watched the pig-sodding one last night, Black Mirror, brilliant!
Thanks for the tip, andy.

Have been watching the Aussie TV series "Underbelly." True story of events involving gangster type characters. Found the best to be series 4 Underbelly Razor- Is a thirteen-part series detailing real events that occurred in Sydney between 1927 and 1936. The series depicts the "razor gangs" who controlled the city's underworld during the era and the violent war between the two "vice queen" powers, Tilly Devine and Kate Leigh.

You can accuse the British Empire of many things, but hope we can all agree the net result globally was positive, and the world a much poorer place since its demise? After all, it essentially gave birth to the USA & Australia among others, saved us all from European disaster, twice. Not to mention the railways, roads, legal systems, aqueduct, etc.

The British Empire was a negative force overall that nonetheless brought some good along the way, though it isn't unique in that regard. And compared to other conquering/colonizing European nations at the time they were more humane (not a shining endorsement though). I think people make too much of bringing infrastructure and the legal process because it doesn't mean those countries wouldn't have developed on their own or that colonization was necessary to share such knowledge. And supposing it was, did the natives all believe it was worth it? Guess it didn't matter. Further these things weren't accessible to everyone which often exacerbated problems that predated colonization and continued after independence, now with the new "elite."
So this idea that the messes post independence all day just "proves" the world is "better off" because of the British Empire, is utter garbage. If anything the world wouldn't be like this were it not for them. What's more is they normalized the evolving trend of sticking one's pointy nose where it doesn't belong, something my country - now the more powerful entity - has sadly continued. Its not our baby.
Aaanyway, has anyone watched 'Sleepy Hollow'?

The British have now been added to nirvana's ever-expanding "list of things I hate because I need to hate something". The Earth is degenerating these days. Bribery and corruption abound.

New American series Star-Crossed - 2 episodes so far - is looking great. Alien 'immigrants' causing tension in the US. Complex dynamics instead of simplistic goodies v baddies. Works as an excellent allegory of Australia's asylum seekers' policy with shades of CNRP and Vietnamese (at a stretch).

I will go on record that you, LTO, JM, Felger, LL, Mr Pig, Postman are most of the reason I come back to the site - actual tangible stuff to report.
