The USA horse,a rank outsider No Joke Howard could get up and win by a long nose.
I am in awe of the sporting Nostradamus' on this forum who managed to pick the All Blacks to win the 2015 Rugby World Cup. They are truly insightful and talented predictors to select this team to win. Surely they can turn their talents to name the horse that will win the Melbourne Cup...

it was a great game. Most of my friends were more confident that NZ would win, largely due to this being the last game for many of the NZ 'greats'.. they simply had to leave on a high... I'm more cautious. I had no nails left to bite when Australia were within a try and conversion of winning. LOVED the ending of the game. Classic All Blacks. I hate when people say they are proud to be kiwi, but I definitely feel nostalgic pride for the long, long history of great rugby that has come out of NZ.
It was a great tournament, and I love that Japan had such success.
Four more years.

Well yes, hats off to Japan for an outstanding performance but let's face it: they were never going to go all the way (much like with football). This tournament was the AB's to lose. I would have liked the Poms to go a little further and the Boks were a little unlucky...

FFS, an 8-year old boy that got carried away. The way he got tackled by the security guard was a disgrace....Stanisław wrote:Way to reinforce bad behavior , give a pitch invader a medal and hat

he was 14 years old.
I'm in the camp that thinks the security guy was doing his job... reacting quickly to the sight of someone running onto the field. It happened quickly, he reacted quickly. At most, the security guard deserved a yellow card. The kid shouldn't have been running on to the field.

Great stuff SWB. In one little corner of Twickenham, a young fan ran out to be with his hero and that hero blessed the lad's dreams.
Who does a full-on running tackle on a kid in front of the world champions walking their victory lap anyway?
The tackling of pitch invaders has been slammed recently, just over the top, but tackling the bejesus out of the slightly built 14 year old Charlie Lines is in a class of its own. SWB thought he was 7 or 8 years old.

An Irish horse called USA, you just never know. He's currently around $20, not rank outsider but will see on the day.Jep wrote:.violet wrote:RainMan wrote:And a NZ horse to win the Melbourne Cup

Twenty four horses over two miles is the hardest race to pick all year. Think the favorite Fame (JPN) has too much weight.
Wait an see about the track conditions, pick at the moment for wet runners is Max Dynamite, great Jockey, low weight and likes the wet, a decent price $13.
Never mind.
Damned pitch invaders, blight on the game, what. I remember the days when everyone invaded the pitch at the end of a game. Great final and great tournament and great gesture by SBW.
The haters will always hate him though, the kiwis are worse haters than the ALP.

yeah, he was small for his age. Perhaps the security guy was a wannabe Rugby player and was hoping to get picked up by a team.kinard wrote:Great stuff SWB. In one little corner of Twickenham, a young fan ran out to be with his hero and that hero blessed the lad's dreams.

ok, it was over the top but I do think he reacted instinctively. The kid didn't look injured from it. Done and dusted and SWB got a replacement medal. All good in the hood.
