The art thread, post your favorite paintings here.
Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a leading French post-Impressionist painter. He who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of color and style that were different from Impressionism. His work was influential among the French avant-garde, and later artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partly from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard.

My favourite painting, too. Seriously.
Brilliant artist.
Brilliant artist.
Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame.

I first saw this, I was fascinated with it, but I found it horrific at the same time.

The Scream, Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch (12 December 1863 – 23 January 1944) was a Norwegian painter and print-maker. He was born in Adalsbruk. He was an expressionist. He is well known for his treatment of emotion such as fear. His way of seeing things had a large influence on the expressionism of the 20th century. People saw this treatment as being intense.

I was impressed big time right from the start when i aquired it. More in way of an uneducated prole,
who feels he's got greatness on his hands but can't quite put the proverbial finger on it.
It took me some serious researching many years later, to finally "get it", (not on a narrative level,
most people who know the painting, probably know that it's about this spanish town where Franco
let Hitler test his bombers. or so i hope)
Great thread
(great admirer of Gauguin's myself)
Hopefully i'll be able to contribute some.
on a side note: those huge pics, breaking the browser format, piss me of a substantial deal. is it browser specific?
what's the most simple remedy? I abandoned Opera when they gave up their own engine for the Chrome one.
Opera had no issues, always manage to scale large pics.

there's a few things wrong with this thread imho. it doesn't live up to its potential.
are you guys such philistines? really?
is this thread about YOUR favorite paintings, or could someone just post a link to the 100 hundred
most famous paintings, that would include 75% of what's been presented so far.
when i saw the scream, i just wanted to do that. I'm waiting for someone to link to one
the 2 van gogh works that EVERYBODY in western europe must have seen at some point during their
formative years for me to lose my shit altogether.
i'm drunk again, so i'll sign off
my favorite paintings are to be found in my private collection
doing what i decided to refrain from: bragging. about my knowledge, (after it had happened already)
but there's a point worth stressing, your favourite paintings are your "own", companions for the rest of your life
be it physical or not.
that special relationship is as important as their artistic merit.
hope i get around to shooting some of my faves tomorrow
submit here & see what you guys have to say about them
