I see ca&tw’s point. You’re right Andre, all of these paintings would be in any Art History 101 midterm and they were. Of course it doesn’t mean the classics can’t be your favorites but my tastes aren’t as refined as most here…and most abstract art is quite frankly, baffling. In fact, I think Steven Pinker has a paper on why we may have evolved to find modern abstract art unaesthetic but pretend to enjoy it only due to social pressure.
Anyways, Klimt's goldleaf is always nice and I suppose we will eventually have da Vinci and Michelangelo posted so let me bring this thread down a notch early. It was Frank Frazetta for me growing up and I understand that more educated people may not consider him a true painter or artist; but Frank was to me.
There would be no John Howe or Alan Lee, who both did the concept art for the Lord of the Ring film series, if it weren't for Frazetta.
Oh and the way he painted women…so voluptuously stunning
not like the anorexic, lollipop stick-figure girls
gracing the covers of vogue or whatever today.
These are some low-resolution works of Frazetta and some of them were unfinished.

Guernica in blair witch mode, (30 secs exposure) can you see the chicken?

I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away

I think we had a thread similar to this last year, but no harm in starting another. My favourite is Mark Gertler's Merry-go-round.

Someone likes this painting too. And used for his avatar, but now he has gone.pablomiguelgarcia wrote:The Scream, Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch (12 December 1863 – 23 January 1944) was a Norwegian painter and print-maker. He was born in Adalsbruk. He was an expressionist. He is well known for his treatment of emotion such as fear. His way of seeing things had a large influence on the expressionism of the 20th century. People saw this treatment as being intense.

I can't pick a favorite painting, I like too many. These are my favorite paintings today, by an artist called "Angelyne":
Yesterday my favorite painting was by Zinaida Serebriakova. It's called "Green Autumn."
For all time, I'm rather fond of Otto Dix:
Obviously not paintings, but I do like Kathe Kollwitz a lot:
I also like Joe Coleman along with a whole lot of other "low-brow" art:
For example Robt. Williams:
Or Jim Woodring:
Or Scott Musgrove;
Takashi Murakami does some good shit:
Recently I have enjoyed Mark Ryden's stuff:
Anyway, there are too many to mention, whatever floats your boat...

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
