Brendon McCullum has hit the fastest ever test century, two balls quicker than Sir Viv Richards' record. He is currently 138no off 74 balls.
Why is he retiring?

Yes, his last international game. Well done Bazza, though he had to do something as his last 3 or 4 innings have been abysmal, so this is his swansong. A good captain too by all accounts. edit
Wait, there's more...NZ 1st innings run rate, 5.64, highest ever for any team sent in ...65.4 overs, 370 runs

It was unbelievable! He came in when NZ were 34/3 on a wicket that was moving sideways. The first ball screamed past his nose. After that it was pure McCullum carnage. I have never seen a field set like it before. Australia had two men set 20 metres directly behind the wicketkeeper ten metres apart for the edges that were flying everywhere.

Here are the highlights (including a great 'catch' by Marsh when he was on 39). Breathtaking hitting:

I tweeted what some wag on Sportradio had said that if McCullum bats out the day and tomorrow then Pranav Dhanawade's record of 1009 is in danger, except that the boundaries are bigger than 12 metres.
Next minute he was out.
