Just saw him play a piano set at Paisley Park on Saturday, he played chopsticks and was joking around, teasing the crowd showing off his new guitars but wouldn't play them, no idea this was in the cards.

Crowd is starting to form outside Paisley Park right now according to my friends facebook.

Wow. That came out of nowhere. There really seems to have been a lot of celebrity deaths this year.

I'm really shocked, as he is the only one of the recent deceased celebrities who was younger than me. I wasn't into funk till he appeared. I regard him as an innovative genius, who changed the parameters of popular music, though he seemed to lose it in the latter stages of his career. He always claimed that he didn't drink, smoke or do drugs. I wonder?
Saw him live in Brisbane circa. 1990. His show at the concert venue was great, but the stripped down free funk performance he gave at an inner city nightclub later that evening was even better. The audience at the main venue was told of the special treat in store later and I understand this happened regularly.
Many thanks, boomer, for posting "When Doves Cry". It was the song that first turned me on to Prince, as it had a structure that was totally unique at that time.

I grew up next door to one of his protégé's Denise Mathews aka Vanity. She was from Niagara Falls Canada.

She just died recently too at 57.

When Vanity first appeared, she was touted as Prince's girlfriend, as well as his protege. I bought her first album because of the Prince connection, but it wasn't in the same class.
News reports this morning claim the death was suspicious. He was hospitalised a week ago via helicopter for what was described as flu, was released, then apparently collapsed and died in a lift. Reports claim the real truth will be revealed at a later date.

Some reports say he was treated for an overdose 6 days ago.
I remember seing him at Earls Court years ago. Amazing guitar player. It was when he was dating his dancer and she flew right over the top of us suspended on cables.
