At the time i found it quite disturbing that the fences couldn't have been cut down quicker with a torch or disk cutter. 30 seconds to cut through one end of a fence and you are done.

I was in the crowd at the Crystal Palace v Birmingham City game the week after Hillsborough where a similar situation could very well have played out had the fencing been as high as Hillsborough. It was caused by a combination of excessive drinking, serious overcrowding and poor policing. I remember looking across as the crowd built up thinking this does not look good, and it pretty much played out as I anticipated, but I thought if I could see it why couldn't the police who were supposed to be the professionals.
To me with Hillsborough I view it similarly, I find it impossible not to apportion responsibility equally to the police hierarchy in charge of planning and key decision making and those Liverpool fans forcing their hand. Liverpool fans steamed and stole enmasse throughout Europe in the 80's culminating in the Heysel disaster where they most certainly caused the death of 39 Juventus fans, but hell lets not mention or remember that. Same scenario, excessive drinking, ticketless fans causing overcrowding and mob steaming. The hypocrisy of that club and it's fans make me sick.

The South Yorkshire police are a fucking disgrace and their lies and incompetence should see someone go down for this. Of course they won't.
I was at Leicester City Vs Chelsea (second division) that day and I remember listening to the radio at half time and they were reporting crowd trouble.
Two good articles from The Guardian.

Is asking nine guys who live near Liverpool if the Liverpool football fans were to blame sort of like asking a jury of black people if O.J. Simpson was to blame for killing two people?

I was actually in the UK at that time, but not in Liverpool, but I will tell you that the footage that they showed on TV was most certainly the police fault. All that pissing and pickpocketing came after. It was the police, and they rightly ruled on it.
Don't fucking blame the fans gavinmac. That is pure bullshit. Read about it and watch youtube or something.
FFS. I'm starting to believe what other people say aboot you now. That's like saying that the SUV that mowed someone down was the stupid god damn pedestrians fault.
GM, are you doing new drugs? And I dinny mean Viagra.

Just imagine thousands of these guys heading into a closed off fenced area and you can easily see where things could go wrong.

Are Liverpool fans still to blame for causing 39 deaths of mostly Italian fans in Brussels a few years earlier? Is the Liverpool argument here, "Our fans only killed dozens of people once, they are not a bunch of thugs who would do something like that twice."

Hey have you heard about the Liverpool FC Triathlon?
The events are football, squash, followed by fencing.

GM, I can answer that question, mate. But if you really want to join in an argument over what is/has been going on in Police files regarding hooliganism in the Uk for a long time, I request you dig a little deeper and with a little more reading-between-the-lines into the bigger picture. You can start by delving into 'The Brotherhood' by Stephen Knight (murdered at the tender age of ... 33). The Heysel disaster was planned in advance - the real perpetrators were not even football fans. 'Hillsborough' was all part of a scheme to focus on English hooliganism and to bring folk to heel. It was the 'Harrying of Yorkshire' by William I re-enacted.gavinmac wrote:Are Liverpool fans still to blame for causing 39 deaths of mostly Italian fans in Brussels a few years earlier? If you wish to delve into English History, mate, at least have an inkling of what you are talking about. Thanks.

I thought the Belgian disaster was caused by a decrepit footbaĺl stadium wall collapsing crushing fans. Idiots were always fighting at european soccer matches - just as they riot at US sports games. Reading around about Hillsborough now it's clear that the police covered up and certain parts of the press engaged in a sensationalist smear campaign. During the 80's football stadia were overcrowded shitty places to be with lots of boisterous behaviour as you expect from thousands of people in high spirits. Thing is most times the walls don't collapse or people aren't penned in like animals with others directed in behind them to crush them to death. If you look at details of those who died they include families - teenage girls and boys - not your average tattooed hooligan. The police were also sometimes really over the top in how heavy handed they were. I remember going to see West Ham when I was a kid of 12. Big fucking 6ft 3 copper shoved me violently out of the way to get through the crowd. I'd done zero.
The spate of US deaths involving police arresting and shooting unarmed people is shocking. Some cops are worse than the criminals.

Is your answer that Liverpool fans are not to blame for the Heysel disaster?springrain wrote:GM, I can answer that question, mate.gavinmac wrote:Are Liverpool fans still to blame for causing 39 deaths of mostly Italian fans in Brussels a few years earlier?
I hadn't heard that the 39 people died there because non-football fans planned in advance to travel from England to Brussels to attend the match just to kill Italians.

You may use your sophistry against me because I believe I am equal to it. Can you show, without equivocation, that Liverpool fans travelled to Heysel with the specific intent of causing those 39 deaths? Prove it, if you please. Your sarcasm is noted. Have you not read the reports of Chelsea fans and other 'Chelsea Shed' Headhunters going there with the specific intent of causing trouble? Have you not heard of the NF, GM?gavinmac wrote:Is your answer that Liverpool fans are not to blame for the Heysel disaster?springrain wrote:GM, I can answer that question, mate.gavinmac wrote:Are Liverpool fans still to blame for causing 39 deaths of mostly Italian fans in Brussels a few years earlier?

I ask you again, Mister Lawyer, to prove your assertions. You may wish to delve into the history of English Hooliganism, but I am a patient chap. I can wait for quite a while.

I'm not suggesting that at all. You're the one who said something about it being pre-planned by murderous non-football fans.
Everything I've read suggests that liverpool fans were responsible for the Heysel deaths. Do liverpool folks dispute that too?
