The Open
I haven't watched much of this one but it does sound very similar to the battle Faldo had with Greg Norman (and Langer to a certain extent) a decade or two ago.

Just read about it this morning. Wish I had been able to watch it. Remarkable margin between the front two and the rest.
Love to play both golf and snooker, but watching it on TV bores me to tears irrespective of the quality or tension on show (aforementioned Faldo/Norman, Davis/Taylor snooker final). It played out well on Twitter though!
Rocket Ronnie's 147 in five mins or whatever it was however, now that was quite something to watch even on TV (but off topic & for another thread I'm sure when the pool players come out of hiding) ...

It was an incredible final round. They were pretty much neck and neck until the last four or five holes when a couple of ridiculously long Stenson putts went in. There was nothing Mickelson could do about that. Good to see a Swede win a major for the first time, and good for the old guys too - the top three players were all in their 40s.
Agree on both of those, especially the latter as a recent joiner of the club!scobienz wrote:..Good to see a Swede win a major for the first time, and good for the old guys too - the top three players were all in their 40s.

At 45, had Mickelson held on he would have been the oldest winner of the open since Old Tom Morris, 149 years ago.

Interesting, perhaps. But that info wouldn't score you points in any pub quiz.violet wrote:an interesting piece of trivia.scobienz wrote:At 45, had Mickelson held on he would have been the oldest winner of the open since Old Tom Morris, 149 years ago.
"It's close - but it's not right"
Phil Mickelson is 46 years old.
