Believe it or not, there is a whole other world outside of Cambodia and South East Asia, be it people or politics, frustrations or football, this is the place to talk about it.

How? When everything thinks they have a voice. Seems counter intuitive, but it makes sense in a mad way.

The world does seem to have been getting more and more intolerant for a few years now.
Based on what evidence and what timescale? I see no evidence of that at all. Don't be confused by zealots of all hues suddenly finding a voice thanks to Twitter and 24hour news channels. The intolerance has always been there, just suppressed.

There is a good logical position that the spurt in exposing these views is at the same time generating a counter movement of increased understanding and tolerance and accommodation by the majority who don't think like ISIS, Trump, Britain First or the extreme left.

It's all too much like reality TV for me but if it's a choice between the communists on the left and the fascists on the right, I'll go with the fascists.

They dress better and I quite like those long, tight, leather boots they wear.

If you are going to mouth off about intolerance, you have to add the complete religious intolerance shown by certain Muslim countries towards not just any other religion but also different sects of their own (as well as other things like stage magicians or homosexuals). This intolerance completely outweighs the occasional gobshite mouthing off in the UK, their intolerance carries the death penalty - and it is carried out.

I have no argument with that. Hatred and intolerance comes in all shapes and sizes and from many political and religious groups.

It's more of a case of the successful baby boomers having so much skin in the game that they will always take the status quo option and feel more comfortable with their fingers in their ears shouting "la la" hoping they manage to cash in their pensions before the whole thing goes pop.

As for students, you can't blame them, they don't have any real world experience yet, they are just parroting what they've been told. There's a reason most people drift to the right as they age (i.e. gain life experience).
It's not baby boomer vs everybody. No generally speaking it's actually smart vs stupid according to polling. Pick your conspiracy theory and Trump has the believers locked up. Fortunately there aren't enough. Sorry pal but non college educated older white men in fear of change and the other (plenty of baby boomers among them) do not constitute "America". Yeah it's a shame we got Hillary but that's the real choice and don't blame me I voted for Sanders.

The baby boomer comment was directed at Alan rather than Trump supporters, my point being that they are always about the status quo, so in this case would obviously go for Hillary.

Me, I'd be voting for whomever the Washington Post tells me is the candidate for racist bigots with a low IQ, as that's obviously the candidate I'm not supposed to be voting for.

Sorry I can't as polls can only be deleted, not edited. I edited my comment to include him. I wish indeed they were better know/talked about, I know nothing about them, all debates and news arel about HC/DT and I am sure most folk are desperate for an alternative to that nightmarish choice between the plague and cholera

Frustrated and angry with the choice between plague and cholera ( well put  ), D.C. and politics in general. It's palpable over here. :axe:

I can't stand Hilary but Trump is just too much of a lunatic, thief, profiteer and scammer ever to be trusted as commander in chief. Can you really imagine that temperamental freak and bully with his finger on the nuclear button?

The people's candidate.

Of course it's Newsweek not Breitbart/Fox/Infowars so it must be horseshit.
