What is the greatest Sporting Event
Jock Jock's post on the Ryder Cup has got me thinking about what is the best sporting event.
For me I think the Ryder Cup takes it. It has rivalry, teamwork, variety of competition, tactics, its extremely competitive (normally) & it lasts long enough but not too long that you lose interest.
(Also Northern Ireland isn't irrelevant!')
Anyone ever been to watch it live?
I love the World Cup (football i.e. soccer for non-English speakers) but it probably lasts a bit too long. The Olympics are great but they are multi-disciplined so probably not a fair comparison.
I'm guessing that there may be different responses from other nationalities.

I think the atmosphere amongst spectators at the TT makes it standout. I was there once years ago but have been to the NorthWest 200 road racing loads of time. It is exhilarating but not a great spectator sport IMO. I suppose the high turnover of riders from year to year (due to death or injury) makes me lose interest a bit.lurcio wrote:Isle of Man TT

I personally don't really like time trials - they are a bit hard to follow. I prefer head to head racing.

The world is the only truly global sporting event and the only one where you will find people huddled around tvs in every part of the world. That doesn't happen with the olympics or golf or even boxing. There is nothing else like it in sport.
Football World Cup, crony administrators aside.

Not very catchy.
