Bob Dylan wins Nobel Prize for Literature
Just announced. After rumours that he would be awarded the prize five years ago, it's finally happened. Nice one.

Good for Mr. Zimmerman, smart kid from Minnesota.
Really turned out some masterful verse.
Time passes slowly up here in the mountain
We sit beside the bridges and walk beside the fountains
Catch the wild fishes that float though the stream
Time passes slowly when you're lost in a dream.
Once I had a sweetheart, she was fine and good-looking
She sat in the kitchen while her mama was cooking
Stared on out the window to the stars high above
Time passes slowly when you're searching for love.
Ain't no reason to go in a wagon to town
Ain't no reason to go to the fair
Ain't no reason to go up, ain't no reason to go down
Ain't no reason to go anywhere.
Time passes slowly up here in the daylight
We stare straight ahead and try so hard to stay right
Like the red rose of summer that blooms in the day
Time passes slowly and fades away.
Time for some free-wheeling Bobby.

Dylan does not do well with award speeches .. Hopefully his publicist will keep things on point.David L wrote:Good for Mr. Zimmerman, smart kid from Minnesota.

Don't blame me I voted for Sanders
It ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don’t matter, anyhow
An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don’t know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I’ll be gone
You’re the reason I’m trav’lin’ on
Don’t think twice, it’s all right
It ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An’ it ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
I’m on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin’ you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin’ anyway
So don’t think twice, it’s all right
It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
I can’t hear you anymore
I’m a-thinkin’ and a-wond’rin’ all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I’m told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don’t think twice, it’s all right
I’m walkin’ down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
But goodbye’s too good a word, gal
So I’ll just say fare thee well
I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don’t mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don’t think twice, it’s all right
It don’t matter, anyhow
An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe

One of the few songwriters who you can genuinely call a poet in that his lyrics stripped of the tunes and melody give us much on the printed page as they do as songs. A very well deserved honor to Dylan in my view. A brave choice also. Well done to the prize panel.

Nice article in the Indy: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 60011.html
I certainly don't begrudge Dylan finally getting the NPL, yet I can't help but think of great writers who didn't receive the award. If anyone encapsulated the illusion of the 'American Dream', it was surely Arthur Miller.

I was watching the evening news ( PBS ) here in the States and they said, "Dylan is the first pop musician to win the Nobel". He isn't my favorite musician but am very happy he won. Hopefully this will open the door for other songwriters. And... it was something positive on the news for a change.alanclarke72 wrote:One of the few songwriters who you can genuinely call a poet in that his lyrics stripped of the tunes and melody give us much on the printed page as they do as songs. So Dylan wins the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature. What's the betting he's still bloody moans about it?
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
