It was inevitable. You can't control so many drivers.
Uber denied new operators licence in London
I'm sure the unregulated black market alternative which will now take Uber's place will care much more about potential safety and security implications. There's too much money involved to just shut a business down like this. The free market always wins.Transport for London said: 'TfL considers that Uber's approach and conduct demonstrate a lack of corporate responsibility in relation to a number of issues which have potential public safety and security implications.'

For instance, Uber’s law firm is reviewing a web of financial arrangements tied to the Malaysian government that may have influenced lawmakers there, the people said.

I was an early adopted of uber, back when it was black car only. I have seen it develop over the years, in many countries. I believe that it has peaked, and is going downhill. That being said, I continue to use it, even over Grab or Lift.
I also don't support the taxi unions. Instead of improving their methods, in both taxi licenses, service, price, etc, they have doubled down and simply attacked uber in court. In many cities around the world uber has succeeded simply as a free market alternative to the atrocious practices of taxis.
Both über and taxis need to be addressed, especially with growing middle classes around the world would prefer using them over other alternatives. As Ms. Alexandra stated, simply banning a tech company will do nothing to stop others from taking its place.

I bet the black cabs are Uber the moon about it.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Yeah, just get a mini-cab driven by a crack-head from that hatch on the corner instead.

Mr Khan..... the Muslim Lord Mayor of London is very outspoken against UBER, interestingly he and his political party is supported by the union that represents Black cabs.
This from a Telegraph news article dated Sept 19, 2016.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The black taxi is as much a part of the London tapestry as Big Ben, Beefeaters and Buckingham Palace. If we lose them, an important part of the city’s character will disappear. It would be like paving over the Thames, or turning Hyde Park into a golf course.
This is clearly how the new London mayor feels. When introducing a series of measures to help boost trade for taxi drivers, Sadiq Khan underlined his desire to protect “the future of our iconic black cabs that provide a unique and invaluable service for Londoners”.
Khan’s measures include a 20 per cent increase in the number of taxi ranks, £65 million in grants to help drivers replace old cars, and a new system allowing black taxis to use 20 extra priority lanes that are currently only for buses. All these measures come after pressure from the taxi drivers’ unions to protect their business from the massive increase in private hire vehicles on the streets. That of course means UBER.

Uber is the black market. It operates without licenses and violates regulations in many cities around the world.Alexandra wrote:I'm sure the unregulated black market alternative which will now take Uber's place will care much more about potential safety and security implications. So they've an operators licence. Their drivers also have private hire/hackney licence. Right?

So they're legal as they've just used a loophole.
Apart from the feverish media plashing their drivers names across the pages whenever they commit a crime I don't see the problem. They're offering a service that is cheaper and more reliable then the mafia Hackneys in most cities. Those dreadful black cabs in London need a kick up the arse.
It's inevitable that you'll get some dodgy characters with that amount of employees. Google taxi rapist to get a list of licenced taxi drivers turned loons.

I don't think people who use Uber will be ready and willing to go back to the taxi mafia and their extortionate rates.
Plus taxi drivers aren't any less dangerous than Uber drivers. At least the latter are given ratings through the app. A taximan is always unknown quantity.
