Volcanic activity cited. Over 200 dead and more missiing. From the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/ ... toa-erupts
Freedom is not a state. It is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau.. Freedom is a continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.-John Lewis
Krakatoa hardly exists anymore. The erupting cone is Krakatau - 'Son of Krakatoa' which emerged in the remnants of the Krakatoa obliteration.
It has been erupting for years, but yes, it is probably inevitable SoK will eventually emulate its predecessor. In the meantime it is just experiencing growing pains, increasing in height by 5 meters per year.

The cone has completely collapsed, which is a good thing as it didn't blow up the way it did in 1833.kinard wrote:Krakatoa hardly exists anymore. The erupting cone is Krakatau - 'Son of Krakatoa' which emerged in the remnants of the Krakatoa obliteration.

But it will only mean a bigger base for the next incarnation which will be bigger, if it ever fills the original caldera again we might have a problem.
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Ok, I see that now.Visser wrote:The cone has completely collapsed, which is a good thing as it didn't blow up the way it did in 1833.kinard wrote:Krakatoa hardly exists anymore. The erupting cone is Krakatau - 'Son of Krakatoa' which emerged in the remnants of the Krakatoa obliteration.

...radar images were taken by JAXA’s ALOS-2 satellite and subsequently analyzed by Japan’s Geospatial Information Authority, reports the Associated Press. Normal satellite photographs of the volcano haven’t been possible owing to incessant cloud cover in the region. The before image was taken two days before the eruption on August 20, 2018, and the after image was taken two days after on December 24, 2018.
