Gluten free is retarded
This article sheds light on how stupid it is for people to be “gluten free” — unless they’re celiac.

How did this trend even start?

Nothing new there, I've been saying for years that it is retarded, just like other retarded things that made their appearance around the same time:
Deconstructed cappuccino:
Pumpkin ale:
And of course:

Another retardation that has afflicted the human race in recent years:
And this kind of stuff, which doesn't really affect me but is equally retarded.

There is a new fad diet coming along every few years that sells lots of books and tutorials.Wayward Woods wrote:And what’s the deal with this new Keto trend I’m seeing?
As a keen runner my take on it, and all other diets: BS. You do not see the Kenyan/Ethiopian runners do any diets. These fad diets are supposedly a quick fix for a general unhealthy diet. Most people do not need a specific diet, just give that daily cheese burger and bag of crisps a miss.

I'm starting to think our bodies were not made to eat so many carbs without exercise.
We are more hunter gatherers than farmers.
Pre-diabetics get put on carb free diets.

There's no secret to it, for me. Try to eat generally healthy and get off your ass and exercise on a somewhat regular basis.
The OP's article mentions some things I've read elsewhere lately as well, the importance of fiber in a healthy diet.
Fad diets are such a colossal waste of money... unless you're Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchon (crazy diet)

Eat less meat, more beans, more veg, more fruit i'm thinking. In Nepal they believe its better not to eat meat before walking in the mountains.Hanno wrote:Paelo diet? Its generally carbs people eat too much of though no? People generally dont eat excessive amounts of meat.
Anyway, think i might have a veggie thali later. In Goa they come with rotti's AND rice!!

In the West, people eat way too much meat and meat products. And this is where the Paelo diet is wrong. If you look at Bushmen, who probably still eat something close to the Paelo diet, they do not eat that much meat; running down an Antelope is not all that easy (And yes, the Inuit diet is 90% meat than veggies and grains are kind of scarce around the North Pole).
I also disagree with the notion that all carbs are bad. Yes, carbs from processed foods and sugar are certainly not good, but whole grains, legumes, etc. are an important part of a balanced diet.
Admittedly, I am no expert but I have always taken an interest in eating well, do not like processed foods much, do plenty of sports and can honestly say that my waist size hasn't budged for 30+ years.

I tried cutting out carbs and going a bit towards keto for a while to help lose weight. it worked, but I didn't feel great, my cholesterol went through the roof, and I felt that I wasn't getting enough fibre.
I can't see the point of losing weight just to increase your chances of a heart attack through clogged arteries or bowel cancer.
So now I just keep the carbs down a bit, it's taken me a while to realise that one doesn't have to have bread with every meal. And I buy better quality bread. rye bread etc. Down to eating meat perhaps only about 4 times a week now. And most importantly for me am exercising portion control. Oh, and I'm only drinking San Miguel Light beer, at least at home.
