A week long trip to Bali...
Sort of make the expat-sick for Cambodia a bit. It's like a more nicely polished version of Cambodia, and honestly makes me wonder what the kingdom would have been had it not been for the Vietnam war and all that happened as a result of it. Was a damn nice time, that's for sure... and if you've never been I highly suggest it.
Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

Bali is ok, but I wouldn't travel all that way for 1 week.OrangeDragon wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:58 amSort of make the expat-sick for Cambodia a bit. Did you get to some of the other islands?

There are some nice spots in Bali, but I prefer the idea of landing at Denpasar then heading east to other islands.

Hence getting away from the tourist hubs.
Admittedly, I haven't been there for some years now, but wherever in Asia, always better in the off season to avoid crowds.
A 'Week Long Trip To Cali' would sound more appealing, I must say.

I went to Bali in oct 2017 , rented a motorcycle for 12 days and traveled allover,
outside of Lake Batur, and Amed, it was very disappointing.
ubud, kuta were so crowded and traffic so bad, i couldn't believe it,
food was overpriced, hotels were cheap thou, ( Mt Agung was about to blow)
I'd hate to travel there in a high season with no threat of a volcano erupting.
My previous trips were back in 82, 86, 96, 98, 02 and i loved it
NOW its, ( as many places) overrun with Chinese .
Never again.

It’s always been a vacation haven for the Bogans that couldn’t afford a proper holiday along the Gold Coast or elsewhere.
But Eat Pray Love is what really did the place in.

If you go to the west side, Kuta etc, in the wet season (Sthn hemisphere summer, xmas etc) you will find filthy beaches and lousy surf - because the prevailing wind is onshore. So go to the east side at that time of year. And visa versa.
As for the tourists; same as everywhere - Ahh ya shoulda been here in '68 man....
...then he smiled again, and slipped away, further on up the stream
Agreed, Gold/Sunshine Coast. was there recently for 2 weeks. beautiful.
Bali was ok 30yrs ago.

The river beds were dry and full of household rubbish. When I asked why they replied that it was okay as when the rains came the rivers would flow and wash it all out to sea.Hairy-nosed Otter wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 3:12 pmIf you go to the west side, Kuta etc, in the wet season (Sthn hemisphere summer, xmas etc) you will find filthy beaches and lousy surf - because the prevailing wind is onshore.
