Totally Off Topic, but at Angkor Market on Road 6 in Siem Reap, we now find Punk Dog IPA and Old Speckled Hen. I'm having a ball. And, vlad, please drop the dead donkey of exporting beer-flavoured-water like local sh*te to the UK. We demand quality beer, even if we do make a hash of leaving Europe!

I've not used an atm, nor handled cash in 3 months. Everything totally cashless.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 4:25 pmGroup of backpackers at a restaurant in Kampot asked to pay by card (she actually had it out ready) but the staff just looked at it like it was a piece of plastic, which is exactly what she said to her boss (I guess she doesn’t have a bank account, she’s new).
The backpackers looked confused.
Thankfully they scraped enough riel together, but it was amusing watching them getting increasingly flustered over the different denominations and currency and the staff members zero English!
I heard one say they’d literally just arrived yesterday in PP and had a nightmare journey with a kamikaze taxi driver, who we’d seen dump them and screech off. (One wonders how they paid him but he had a load PayLi or something on his car).
Anyway. I guess that’s the way it is now in the UK. Cashless.

When I was back in the UK this summer I was the only person in my main drinking circle that paid cash for every round, all the rest were cardless transactions. Even the Uber we took home at the end of the night was cashless and prepaid through the app.
A lot of times the barmaids did a double take when I paid for a round of 5 beers with cash.

Slightly insensitive mentioning potatoes.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 4:37 pmAre you somewhere rural? I was in Dublin recently and there was plenty of choice in fruit & veg. I was amazed how cheap everything was in supermarkets, even stuff like mangos/ avocados were cheaper than here where they actually grow. It seemed most stuff was half the price or even less. Beer in pubs is a bit more expensive though.spitthedog wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 11:47 pmOne thing i notice about Ireland, which lacks vs Cambodia, is the sheer lack of choice for fruit & veg vs the KOW.
Carrots, potatoes, onions.
It's maybe a sign that Asian food places could be a good investment from a low base?
It doesnt seem like England here where every street has a curry house.

^ i bought the C124, sight unseen off eBay. So yeah, very tempting.
Sold it last year for a profit. It can be done, but I’m not sure the investment in time is worth it, but.
I’m on the cusp of securing another long term desire of mine, the C140 CL500. I think they’ve depreciated as far as they’ll go now before the pendulum swings back.
But yeah, back on topic - food, cars and beer, best part of being home.
Rule of law to an extent too, but it does have a habit of eating into your degeneracy sessions, unfortunately.

Yes, it’s time to nut up. They won’t be financially within reach and weekend useable for much longer.

You actually have a point there. After living in a developing third world country for so long, you get used to a certain change of pace always going on around you.
Going home after so long away it takes a while to realise that 80% of what you left is still the same
