Awful batting by England (again!).
Great bowling by Australia (again!)
England can't even take advantage of better batting conditions.
Australia look to be well ahead - even without Smith!
England a/o 67. Crap!

Australia did indeed bowl well but most of them got themselves out with some poor shot selection, only Root had an unplayable ball.springrain wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 8:19 pmAwful batting by England (again!).

What would be your solution, mate?
I don't think JJ Roy is at all suited for the longer game. Burns can bat, but he was all at sea against the Aussie attack today. Root just shouldn't be batting at number 3. That is obvious.
I think England were embarrassed today - so was I!

Need to look at the county championship more instead of keeping all the 20/50 overs team.springrain wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:03 pmWhat would be your solution, mate?

I don’t mind Roy being in there but clearly he is not an opener. Denly has the same innings every game, one or two beautiful shots and then out. We need a solid opener that will take the shine off the ball.
Sibley has been spoken about, haven’t seen much of him but he is a CC opening batter which helps. Foakes should be in as he is the best wicketkeeper in England, Root needs to focus on his batting but who to take over.
Buttler? Probably most captain material but place in the side isn’t safe
Stokes? Already enough with being an all rounder, don’t need to increase his workload any more.
An overhaul will be coming after this series, I have no doubt

Sadly Buttler hasn't been a success in the test side so it's difficult to make him captain. Root hasn't been a good captain. Needs to move back to 4 and concentrate on being the best batmen. Roy hasn't worked at all, he has no understanding of the conditions and is a wicket waiting to happen when he comes in to bat.
The England selectors don't come out of this looking very impressive. .

Tenth highest 4th innings score required. A big ask but not impossible. If Stokes and Bairstow can survive till lunch I'd say we're in with a decent chance.
Anyway, beautiful day here for sitting in the garden reading the papers with tms on the wireless.

In other Crickets news now,,,,,
The Black Caps are doing not too bad in Colombo. Sri Lanka,
I bet this would happen.

None greater. As much as I love Cambodia and SE Asia I've reached the point where I really need to do this for a few weeks a year.
Looks like the cricket's not going our way this time. Will set my mind to at which ale house to spend the remainder of the afternoon. One with a nice garden by the river, I think.

Love. cricket. Love Tests.
England just not good enough.
The Australia attack was fantastic - England had no reply.
