Ben Stokes is quite some player.
And Jack Leach played his part, as well.
What a series The Ashes is!
What a game!

Quite, the only player in the England team that would have even had a chance of bringing that home. The guy knows how to construct an innings, especially when batting with the tail.
Good on leach for sticking around and keeping the game alive.
How much will Australia rue the review on leach (although once again a shocking decision from the umpire on stokes at the end)
Knighthoods for both Stokes and Joel Wilson.
Also doesn’t change the fact that the top order needs a serious review, but I think that is for another day

Wow. That was incredible. Stokes is a legend already, I even believe his story about defending those gays in Bristol now. Hopefully things don't get out of hand in Leeds tonight.
So 10 days until the next test, top order changes are needed.

Nonsense, it's not at all unusual to see members reading at Lords.
Anyway, the only free tickets I had were for my garden.

It requires some imagination and a reasonable understanding of the game but cricket on the wireless can be very enjoyable.Jep wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 8:34 pmhang on! Im lost now, What has garden reading papers on wireless got anything to with watching the beautiful game live,..ball by ball..
I did go in and watch the telly when the requirement got to about 50. Too bloody hot outside anyway.

Used to get free tickets all the time 30 years ago, even had a rhubarb n custard tie in case I wanted to hob knob with the gentry in the pavilion. Can't re call anything about any matches though as I was always on the free piss and nose candy with the celebrity boys.
A truely boring game which occasionally entertains is my opinion.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Is Ben Stokes the greatest/luckiest cricketer in the World right now.?
That will go down in history as one of the greatest Cricket Test matches of all time.
appalling umpiring, Mr Joel needs to go to the Cricket umpires scrap heap with them others, but no really, I blame these new review rules/ what the heck is that all about? why cant ALL dodgy decisions be reviewed? like in the not so olden days. And fuck the new tech onlyallowed to review 3
Its wrong. its just not Cricket,..anymore. even the old lovely wickets got flashing lights these days. Lots of Old Boy champs dead will be turning in their graves with this bloody silly nonsense.

In regard to Stokes, even more remarkable was the fact that of the 73 runs needed when Leach came on, he scored only 3 of them, but played his part admirably.
Fantastic turn-around for England, the Springrain chap will be in rapture and stocking up on screwdrivers.

I was happy about the result, but, in fairness, Stokes should have been given 'out' with a couple of runs left to win.Baggy Green wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 12:06 pmIn regard to Stokes, even more remarkable was the fact that of the 73 runs needed when Leach came on, he scored only 3 of them, but played his part admirably.

There have been some poor umpiring decisions this Summer in England.
I think there are still some serious questions to be asked about:
Root's captaincy
England's propensity to collapse
The top-order problems with England.
(But a vodka & orange will, I'm sure, help to clear things up!)
Seriously, I think Leach & Stokes were heroic, but they had 'the rub of the green'.
I want England to win, but I LOVE Cricket, so just love to see great (and fair) cricket. I feel Australia were a bit hard done by (as were NZ in the WC Final)
Will it be Anderson v Smith in the fourth Test?

Yes, my Aussie friends are all having a good old whine on FB over that poor not out decision, but before we are too hard on the umpires the fact that they called for the review in the previous over when the ball was so clearly going wide of leg shows how easy it is to get these things wrong.
I'd be happy to get rid of the reviews altogether. Cricket will always involve a little bit of luck. England have been getting a bit more than their fair share lately but what goes around comes around.

England getting luck but also using the review system much better.slavedog wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 9:12 pmYes, my Aussie friends are all having a good old whine on FB over that poor not out decision, but before we are too hard on the umpires the fact that they called for the review in the previous over when the ball was so clearly going wide of leg shows how easy it is to get these things wrong.

Australia are constantly wasting their reviews, then run out and get a bad decision.
Its disappointing how the 2019 Cricket World Cup was judged by bad umpiring.
Shit happens.
