Sensible discussion on British politics thread
Just as the title states, posts from those posting the same repetitive rants will be deleted. I just gave you a thread for those.
So, what does a non Brit need to know about the election?

As a Brit, I don't care about the election; 80%* of the country is so stupid that people just vote whatever colour their parent's brought them up as with total prejudice. Even those not voting for their normal party will only be doing so tactically to 'stop the enemy' getting in. It's absurd, and as I determined some 15 years ago, the country has gone to the dogs.
Some simple observations; Conservatives in power for what, 8 years? - and yet it takes a madman to kill two people on London Bridge before the Home Secretary decides that perhaps early release of ISIS/Al-Qaeda fanatics isn't such a good idea?.
Labour; will abolish Trident & tax the rich, bla bla. Whilst communism is back on the rise, you'd have to think that Trident is more relevant than for a long time - just look at how Putin & even our own HE 'strongmen' operate; they pee all over these damn liberals who are probably used to losing and saying "but they cheated!". Nobody cares. Tax the rich - *NEWSFLASH*, the rich ARE rich because they avoid taxes LEGALLY. Sure, slap up the tax on rich people on paper, tax the big corporates and see what happens - they all LEAVE, and take their money & resources to countries with lower or tax schemes where they can make the most money without paying tax. What is GB going to do without these banks, or big corporates who will move to the EU instead - build ships again (Oh Boris ...), maybe start exporting wool to the world again, re-open all the coal mines, make some steel at ten times the price of China?
Lib-Dem & others. Nobody cares. The whole parliament is asleep at the wheel.
Lord Buckethead: Now there's a ray of black light in a sea of darkness!
As a non-Brit, I'd probably just be enjoying my popcorn.
* Who am I kidding, 99%

A good idea to begin a new thread where cooler heads can discuss events without that dullard Kungfoo and his copy and paste politics.

My dad was a labour SDP/Lib Dems type of guy but I’ve never voted for the Lib Dems or Labour.
I’m a Conservative kinda guy.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
It's all very odd.
From the twain times that I've voted once was for Corbyn and once for Brexit and I consider Mussolini a softy.
Anyway I'm flying to the UK this evening and I think can get a vote if I call 'em before the 6th.

Can't imagine voting anything other than Conservative. Ours used to be the safest Conservative seat in the county. Brexit Party is tempting, but we're all just too damned conservative to vote for here-today-gone-tomorrow-parties.
I think most the Brits are conservative by nature; they only ever elect a Labour government to punish the Conservatives once in a while. Just look at how little time Labour have spent in government since its inception. Take out the New Labour years and it amounts to bugger all since the war.

Unless the economy takes a significant downturn, Trump will win 2020. US politics is so predictable.

I did. I also correctly predicted the Leave result.

Ok. I’ll rephrase that.slavedog wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 12:12 pmI did. I also correctly predicted the Leave result.
No one predicted he’d even be in the running for president or even consider him.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
Oh, I see what you mean. Sure, ten years ago probably no one.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 12:34 pmOk. I’ll rephrase that.slavedog wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 12:12 pmI did. I also correctly predicted the Leave result.
