RIP. I wasn't a great fan of electronic music, but Kraftwerk did it with aplomb.

The music was new but the novelty faded fast.
Time to pull the plug on that one.

I saw them live many years ago and it was the strangest and calmest concert I’ve ever been to. Watching 4 guys with laptops in front of a sitting audience was very different to other concerts I went to, but I’m glad that I went.

Err... what?
Those blokes (and New Order) invented an entire genre that's probably the most popular of all musical genres, globally, today.
And here's a mind fuck:-
Their progeny will shortly overtake Rock AND hip hop as the genre with the longest continuous streak in the sun with the cool kids.
Rock: 1954-1994
Bill Haley
To Cobain's Death
Hip-Hop 1979-2010:

To Mumble Rap:
Electronica 1983 - present
Blue Monday
To EDM

Samples of the Kraftwerk beat, (and James Brown's rhythm section samples) became the basis for the enduring genre electronica/ house music.Petrol Head wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 7:35 amErr... what?

I bought one of their albums in the early '70s. Some thought it was too heady and a bit nerdy, though I mostly bought it 'cos it was in the bargain bin and I was always next to skint back then.Alexandra wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 9:09 pmI saw them live many years ago and it was the strangest and calmest concert I’ve ever been to. You can't beat a good bit of krautrock, and Kraftwerk were true innovators inspiring musicians for generations.

Thanks, drwahwah, I look forward to watching that a bit later. Right now, I'm swamping myself in electro! I'm finding that I'm learning and responding to it after being too dismissive at the time. It truly is an Art form. I didn't appreciate it fully at the time.
I think we shouldn't forget that Jean Michel Jarre was recording stuff in the mid - 70s!
This is even better:
