Twitter loses patience with Trump
https://www.bellingcat.com/news/america ... -protests/Bellingcat has identified and collected multiple instances of US law enforcement deliberately targeting journalists during the protests against the killing of George Floyd.
The arrest of a CNN crew in Minneapolis while broadcasting live on air on May 29th was a shocking event, especially in a country with such strong protections on freedom of speech. However as of the time of writing we have identified at least 29 separate incidents where journalists have been attacked by law enforcement.
In these examples journalists have been shot with rubber bullets, targeted with stun grenades, tear gassed, physically attacked, pepper sprayed and arrested.
Although in some incidents it is possible the journalists were hit or affected accidentally, in the majority of the cases we have recorded the journalists are clearly identifiable as press, and it is clear that they are being deliberately targeted. This pattern of violence against journalists is replicated in several cities, but appears most intense in Minneapolis.
Typical dictatorship practices. Could have been China (Hong Kong), Venezuela, Zimbabwe or 90 years ago, Nazi-Germany.
Looks like the USA is heading towards a war, a civil war .......
And the bad thing is, it's fueled by "the great leader".

First the police said that it was for failure to identify as press. The CNN crew consisted of a cameraman, a producer and a reporter. On top of that they also identified themselves as press. This can be heard on the video because they were broadcasting live, as CNN often does, during the arrest.Visser wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 9:14 pmNot sure what happened with the arrest but suspect failure to move when ordered so would probably be the reason as it is most times when reporters are arrested during riots. Seeing that according to SCOTUS everyone is the press they should not get any special treatment imo.
The story then changed with the police saying that it was for failure to move. This is also proven wrong because the crew can be heard on the live broadcast repeatedly saying “we can move back to where you like“.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz apologized for the incident and made sure the news team was released.
That is just one of 29 individual cases where journalists have been deliberately targeted. Both domestic and international reporters are being targeted by police. The police is shooting cameras of photo journalists. A photo journalist called Linda Tirado, who was clearly identifiable as press, was shot in the eye and is now permanently blind on that eye.
Swedish and Norwegian news crews have been targeted by rubber bullets. One of them said: “I wore two cameras, a press card around my neck, and a helmet and a gas mask. We took pictures and behaved in a different way to the protesters.”
There is video footage online showing police cars driving into crowds of protesters. Police cars driving past with the windows rolled down spraying pepper spray at anybody in range.
The situation is totally out of control. It is not a matter of “everybody is a reporter”. These are constitutionally protected reporters wearing proper press identification.
The police is violating their constitutional rights.
Is there anything the police can do to these people that would change your mind, or does anything go because maybe somebody disagrees with you politically? They are people for Christ’s sake. Would you be OK if police was firing live ammo at them?
A man is ordered to get on the ground. He follows the order while shouting “Press! Press! I’m press!” The police says “I don’t care” and pepper sprays the man in the face while he’s laying flat on his stomach showing his press pass.
The police is not very good at convincing the public that there is no problem with police brutality.

In the vast majority of cases I have seen, including the ones embedded in the article, people were either walking along with a retreating line of antifa, in between lines or just failing to comply with a direct order to leave the area the police is clearing.
Do they want a special privilege where shouting Press!! gets you a cozy spot behind the police lines?
If so at the next demonstration half the people there will be wearing press credentials.

^This is nothing more then speculation at this point, I mostly see people making themselves a likely target. Nothing indicates at this point that the reason they were shot at was because they were press.Alexandra wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 10:52 pmThat is just one of 29 individual cases where journalists have been deliberately targeted. There is no such thing as proper press identification in US law as far as I know, you can write press on your shirt and it has the same legal value as a nice laminated one from CNN.The situation is totally out of control. It is not a matter of “everybody is a reporter”. These are constitutionally protected reporters wearing proper press identification.

If SCOTUS ruled that the people are the press then the police should either walk around anyone who identifies him/her/themselves as being media or treat everyone as ordinary citizens.
If not you create a system were employees from certain companies gain special legal rights over the rest of the population, remind me, what was that a sign of again?
Of course not don't be ridiculous, unless they are driven into a corner and fearing for their lives they should stick to batons and mace.Is there anything the police can do to these people that would change your mind, or does anything go because maybe somebody disagrees with you politically? They are people for Christ’s sake. Would you be OK if police was firing live ammo at them?
Not saying there is no police brutality, I'm just saying that those journalists are, for the most part, not targeted because they are journalists but because they are in the wrong place, falsely feel entitled to special privileges or just have a complete lack of situational awareness.

You forgot the part where he was given the option to leave the area but decided to hold his ground.Alexandra wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 11:10 pmA man is ordered to get on the ground. But yeah, the pepper spray was unnecessary and the guy should be written up.

The US is designating Antifa as a terrorist organization. I don’t necessarily disagree with this, but remembering their 1990s activities in Europe I’m surprised that it did not happen earlier.

Awesome Drama Queen stuff. Don't worry, these violent, leftist losers won't be much more trouble.

I should hope so, given the US media is the enemy of the people.

Yes, because a local police matter resulting in riots by feral leftists is Trump's fault. Think things through, man.

Wow, journalists going into hostile areas are having bad things happen to them? What a shocker I tell ya! As for CNN... I won't take any media outlet's version of events, especially CNN. For all we know, the cops told them to move a dozen times before finally arresting them for being in the way.Alexandra wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 10:52 pmFirst the police said that it was for failure to identify as press.
