I am not much into politics..
But, from what I have seen in my lifetime..
Trump is about as independent as you can get.
I think he had to beat about 15-16 Republican party hardcore members and then take on the Clinton machine to win election.
He was a businessman in New York and if anybody knows New York he had to grease a lot of Democrats to get anything done.
I have never seen a person attacked more by his own party, rival party and the media.
But, that is just my independent view.
I have never been a member of any party or club and sure have not voted much in my lifetime.
I think the guest reply is a fine idea and one can give their opinion being called a guest just like someone using a nom de plume.
Of course, I recognize there are some experts who are recognized for their niches and skills in a given topic.
I live in Cambodia.
I am much more concerned about how things are here than over in the States.
It is interesting to note that I have never met a yank who gets pissed off about some Prime Minister from a country they do not live in or probably visited.
But, I am just a guest here.
Yeah, unfortunately, there are by far insufficient 'mericans into politics (eh, use their brains, instead of talk-show glamour), with the consequences that the current idiot in the White House got in charge.
And, yes, corruption (ehhhh, helping out others with their issues, of course never in return of a favor) is showing more and more to have been leading in his past business practices (why is so much effort spent to keep the tax-records "secret", do you have to hide something, Trump ????).
Trump is considered a "rich" person, though I would not be surprised, his tax records do show the depths to be significantly higher than his possessions, or so to say, the guy is not rich, but effectively broke.
Currently, the USA is an economic strong country (with the emphasis on "current"), which implies that what ever happens in the USA will have severe impact on the rest of the world. Especially, when there is an idiot in charge (the current economic wars to attempt to benefit the USA) and in the past (the infantile GWB, with his war driven buddies, repeatedly committing war-crimes), the impact on the world is very negative.
It only takes a Covid-20 or Covid-21 to bring the USA depths to an unacceptable level and the role of the USD as a global currency is over. And, when there is no demand for a currency, its value will be decimated. Which can go very fast. Read: The exchange rates no longer favor the USD.
The above has little to do with Left or Right, more just unacceptable behavior, which seems to be significantly more prone for Republicans (IE greed), with the consequence this reverts into a Left/Right discussion.
