Winston Churchill: 80 Years Ago Today
This classic speech from Winston was delivered 80 years ago today.
Every word in it, but one, is from Anglo Saxon.
The exception is the word "Surrender" which is obviously from the French.

Great quote, and apologies for bursting your bubble, but isn't, for example, 'ocean' a French word?
Not a week later most of the British forces had fled back to their island with other units surrendering to German forces.
Seems the Saxons didn't send their best when they colonised Britain.

None but ourselves can free our mind.
He was a great leader when Britain needed a great leader the most.
His statue was defaced yesterday by a piece if shit who would not exist if Churchill had not stepped up.
He also coined the phrase 'the cold war' in a speech in Colombia, Missouri, USA.
The wuhan chinese virus ruined the annual celebration on the 6th of June that pays homage to the brave men who stormed the beaches of Normandy.
thanks xi...

It sounds like you think the Chinese released the virus on purpose?bodine wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 11:28 amHe was a great leader when Britain needed a great leader the most.

Why didn't the British have their own version of the Mefo bill and build up their own forces at the same time Hitler was rearming Germany? Were Boris Johnson's ancestors somehow involved?

Surrender comes from surrendre an old french word meaning to deliver! Always makes me wonder why playboy hates the frogs so much when his surname is cleary a French word!Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 11:13 amGreat quote, and apologies for bursting your bubble, but isn't, for example, 'ocean' a French word?

Forget the heroic speeches. I think he's more famous for being the last white man to be called Winston.

"Now, then, in order to understand white supremacy we must dismiss the notion that white people can give anybody their freedom." Stokely Carmichael
I think the perception of Winston Churchill being a great man is helped immensely by the fact that his predecessor was such a worthless surrender monkey. That and a tiny little bit of help from Uncle Sam, of course.
All that said though, I'm sure this was an important speech to rally the nation at a crucial moment. Well done.

Not just that but the name of a small town in France too.
The man is clearly french in origin. He even looks a bit Gallic.

If not for the ridiculous Fuhrer making disastrous military decisions in complete opposition to his brilliant, glorious and successful Field marshalls and Generals, e.g the stopping of the tanks from surrounding dunkirk and capturing the british army in strength and then immediately invading england by sea and air and also the subsequent disastrous stopping of the battle of Britain to bomb civillians instead, the UK would be known as a satellite state of the Third Reich fatherland today.
Winston was lucky that Germany lost the war before Britain won it.
RIP PM

Hmm, that might be because the world’s biggest (fact) & “greatest” (not fact) at that time to the south, defending the Maginot Line were how shall we say, “Le tired” and left the bloody door open?
The evacuation was damn near run thing, only made possible by Goering insisting on using the Luftwaffe to “wipe them out” rather than send in the Panzers which would have had dire consequences given the Yanks were also still sitting on their butts twiddling their thumbs at this point.
Strategic evacuation yes, surrender no.

Aren’t you Dutch?
If yes, I’d pipe down on issues such as surrendering and capitulation during the war. How long did it take? 3-4 days?
