"Who are Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, the two Canadians held by China?"
FYI...

Here is a very detailed timeline of their case...

Feel really sorry for them... They had legitimate businesses and super relationships with their Chinese associates -- before Ms. "Huawei" Meng's extradition trial in Canada.
. . . The effect of hyper-nationalism and the non-existence of judicial independence in China is a serious problem. China's Communist Party has a real hold over the minds and lives of far too many people...

I feel sorry for Ms Meng. Locked up in barbaric Canada with the USA trying to get their hooks into her.
Perhaps if she is let out of house arrest and back to China, the case against these lads will magically vanish.
After all, they are just a pair of tennis balls in a bigger match.

This doesn't make the Chinese look very good. Like Jackal said, it's obviously a revenge-based arrest, which indicates that the Chinese justice system is both arbitrary and lacks independence.

So, same day as 19 prominent Canadians write a letter to ask Trudeau to let Meng go back to China.... the Chinese government says they will release the two Michaels if Canada sets Meng free to return to China.
Judging by comments on the CBC website, Canadians are divided as to whether or not Canada should give in to this kind of "hostage diplomacy"...
Ethically, I am inclined to say that Canada not give in. If they do, it will not only represent giving in to bullying tactics, but also, more obviously, represent a blatant example of how the RICH -- ie.: Ms. Meng -- can do anything they want... Any capitulation will only serve to underscore the simple fact that the rich play by their own rules and don't have to worry -- they can get away with anything... (Ms. Meng rigged it to conceal sales by her dad's company of sanctioned products to Iran, something the Chinese had agreed not to do, officially.) But, Canadians are pussies and will probably set her loose...
What do you think..?

Dont know if this has been mentioned anywhere yet but there were also hired protesters at the trial.
https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5434613
I heard somewhere the protesters were used by Chinese media to portray dissent towards the whole ordeal in Canada. I’d say Canadians were more upset about the Mansion she owns in Vancouver where she is for house arrest. Not the biggest fans of foreign buyers in Vancouver these days.

Maybe I am wrong...
Whoever asked whether or not the U.S.A. has any right to impose sanctions on Iran in the first place? I guess the sanctions represent the usual battle for control over the world via oil and arms deals. Let's hope oil becomes obsolete real fast...
I don't like America or Russia, and their fake power politics, which only fuels China's obsession with copy-catting outdated militarism. The U.S. effed-over so many countries since the end of WW2, and all in the fake name of commie-hating, and so-called democracy.
But, I still pity the two Michaels for becoming pawns. But going to work in China wasn't that bright a career move to begin with... (Actually, one of the main reasons Western men go to work in China and Taiwan is the fact that nowhere on Earth is the pussy easier for foreigners. And in the big Chinese cities, you can get really smart, well-educated and beautiful Chinese women...)

On trial... the two Michaels, Friday and today... no access to consular officials or legal consultation... 28 nations send diplomats to the courthouse, but all are denied entry to witness the trial of Kovrig in Beijing... same thing happened on Friday at Spavor's trial in Dandong city.
