US Election 2020
Pretty shocking video, what happened inside the Capitol.
As well as the timings between Trumpies' propaganda and the Mob getting crazy, ready to slaughter about everybody in the building.

His lawyer completely choked. rambling and dithering with no purpose.
Reportedly Trump was screaming at the TV reportage.

All through the tedium of the opening 2 hours of prosecution lawyers, I thought "These guys are trying to bore the TV audience so they tune out and turn off before the Trump people rip the Dems up."Guest wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 6:39 pm(Trump's) lawyer completely choked. rambling and dithering with no purpose.

Maybe, that's because of your pay grade (similar to the brain capacities of the Mob itself).convoluted wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 11:12 pmAll through the tedium of the opening 2 hours of prosecution lawyers, I thought "These guys are trying to bore the TV audience so they tune out and turn off before the Trump people rip the Dems up."Guest wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 6:39 pm(Trump's) lawyer completely choked. rambling and dithering with no purpose.

A more entertaining day.
The prosecution this morning (NZ time) claimed that social media posts in advance of the day should have alerted the Trump team that something heavy was being planned.
But that would surely mean the authorities too also knew well in advance. So why their refusal to pack the defences?
I'll go with my gut instinct in the first few minutes that day as events unfolded i.e. that something was very suss about the whole thing:

Masked protest leaders?
Nancy set this up for a stalemate so she can become president by default.
I would be looking forward to convoluted’s evidence of proof that Jan 6 was a Nancy Pelosi set up job, if it wasn’t for the fact he’s been promising and failing to deliver evidence the election was rigged for the last three months.
That's Trumpie style. Big mouth, no substance.
Looks to me, the Congress impeachment proceeding start to show quite a lot of damage for Trumpie.
Probably not enough to let stubborn Republicans wake-up, though (at least hopefully) enough to let undecided 2024 voters realize the further damage to the USA, IF Trumpie would be reelected. Primaries, Trumpie might win, though for the subsequent big deal it would be doubtful, he'll win. Which implies the Republicans have quite a low chance to regain the White House.

Ouch!!
This is the most savage dismantlement I have ever seen.
The reason I found the two days of prosecution so entertaining was that it was always apparent that the attacks on Trump would spring back and slam the Dens in the face.
Whack!

When do you predict that this fantastical event will happen? You don't have to give a clear date, that would just be embarrassing to me and you, and everyone else. We don't want to keep giving everyone guessing, that's unfair. Just a rough time frame.convoluted wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 1:22 amOuch!!

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Hmmm, looks to me, you did watch another house proceedings than the rest of the (more sane) world.convoluted wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 1:22 amOuch!!

Or are you still dreaming about "stolen elections" ? The wishful thinking audience.

He's already completely irrelevant, and this trial was pretty much inevitable.scobienz wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 8:44 pmPersonally I think this week’s impeachment trial is a mistake. It will be impossible to convict him and if if they could, so what? The benefits would be marginal.
On the other side, impeaching him keeps him firmly relevant and he continues to be a rallying point behind which the likes of Cruz, Graham, Greene and nutjobs like Stone, Flynn etc can rally and re-engage a demoralised MAGA movement that might otherwise just fade away.
It’s a huge political mistake.
It's true that it is political theater for the most part, but a necessary bit of theater. You simply can't let an attack on the halls of democracy pass completely unchallenged, after all. They're putting everyone on record here, and while there will be no surprise conviction, the hope is that enough people will be repulsed by what happened and the response to it by the Republicans that they will think twice about voting for them. Unlikely, maybe, but possible.
The MAGA crowd wasn't going to fade away, no matter what happened. We've gone too far to pretend that divide doesn't exist at this point.
Thing is, The Republican brand is now associated quite openly with white supremacism, and that demographic is not growing in the US. If the Republicans are still willing to hitch themselves to that sinking ship, I'm fine with that.
This is nothing new, this has been the Republican strategy since Barry Goldwater, really. The thing is, it's not going to work for much longer.

Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “nagger, nagger.”

https://www.forbes.com/sites/eriksherma ... 5359bd42c8The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.
