US Election 2020
The only thing everybody can agree on is that it's a mess and probably a colossal waste of money. Like a financial blanket bombing as opposed to drone strikes.

Helicopter money would likely never got off the ground (pardon the pun) without Covid.
A few years ago alot of financial experts were talking about helicopter money being the progression from QE, and whether or not QE really just made the rich richer.
QE basically worked for investors, not your average blue collar worker, as asset prices went up in real estate.
Does anyone find it just a tad spooky that Covid comes along to clear the way for something that would likely have never got mentioned, let alone passed by the lizard peeps?
Meanwhile, a natural order will return as zombie businesses finally go bust.
Steps since the financial crisis;
1) Save the banks
2) Support the stock market/Government bonds.
3) Cheap money for investment in real estate.
4) Helicopter money
5) A more managed economic downturn, rather than a financial crisis??
It's gone full circle.
Springrain, where are you?

FFS Alexandra . . which part of 'when those campaign pledges were made they were in discussions with the Republicans about whether it should be $600 or $2000' are you struggling to understand.
Again - they campaigned for $2000. They lost the debate because the Republicans controlled the Senate so they settled unwillingly for $600. As soon as they gained power, they increased it UP TO the $2000 they campaigned on.
Stop being an asshat.
And just to be clear again, i am not arguing from a proDem perspective. I've already said that I think blanket payments which usually to go people who dont need them are a stupid idea, whether they are $2 or $200,000.

If I had a dollar for every time spitthedog posted about fucking QE, I would have more money than every central bank has pumped into every fucking economy since 2008.
It was a mistake to merge the stimulus check with decisions made by previous admin. Biden may have thought that the $1,400 should be in addition to the $600 but that's not what he said.
If it's a communication error then Biden needs to work on his phrasing so that asshats like me, Georgia voters and members of congress understand what he means.
Evidently his own congressmen are also such asshats that they did not understand that when Biden talked about $2,000 he meant $1,400.
We've gone from Kamala Harris promising $2,000 a month to Joe Biden promising one $2,000 check "immediately", to Joe Biden changing it to $1,400.
Now, what costs more, an extra $600 or potentially losing Georgia in the future?

https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-g ... ely-2021-1The $600 payments have already started being distributed, so it's unclear whether Biden would seek additional $1,400 payments or an additional $2,000.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democr ... lus-checksThe Democratic Party's official Twitter account has sparked backlash Saturday after tweeting that President Biden will "build on the $600 down payment provided by Congress last year, sending an additional $1,400 to households across America, totaling direct payments to $2,000 per person."
Critics of the tweet claim it contradicts the promise made by Biden that a separate, $2,000 stimulus check would "go out the door immediately to help people who are in real trouble" if Georgia voters cast their ballots for the newly-elected Democratic Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock during the state runoff elections earlier this month.

Well, Scoobydoo, QE was clearly not the free market capitalism you have so admired over the years, now is it?
And neither is helicopter money by the sounds of it?
False economies sir, false economies.

No it wasn't, and I have no strong views as to whether cash injections are morally and / or economically good or bad or indifferent.
I've already said the $2000 to every yank - even idiots like Greatsinger living here - is a ridiculously move, but on the other hand it's hard to argue against the economic value of more targeted schemes like furlough which have helped keep tens - if not hundreds - of thousands of companies afloat and millions of people in employment. The cost of dealing with all those jobs lost and lack of economic activity would have been much more expensive.
It's not a case of free market capitalism or state-controlled economies though is it, at least not if you're a thinking person. It is perfectly acceptable to understand that dogmatic ideological standpoints have no place when circumstances change so drastically. So while I can be a supporter of freemarket capitalism, that doesnt mean intervention should never happen.

Finally recognized in the Senate, a major impeachment base seems to become Trumpies' major violation of his sworn oath:
"President Trump's effort to extend his grip on power by fomenting violence against Congress was a profound violation of the oath he swore. If provoking an insurrectionary riot against a Joint Session of Congress after losing an election is not an impeachable offense, it is hard to imagine what would be."
Impeachment additions focusing on oath violation

The "1+1=2" is one of the fundamental Axioms of Mathematics, in turn the base of pretty well all logic applied in everything technical and derived society regulations. Forget your social media and back to the basics, and you can start to understand what is real and what is just unproven gossip. With your IT background, you should know this.
It looks like that, though one of Obama's biggest mistakes was the underspending in 2008, severely limiting the rebound speed of the economy.
What Trumpie did during his first months in office (economy boost with printed money), was just to initiate an economic boost (count on a multiply-factor of maybe 10 times the amount he wasted), just to show off on his economy growth results to make him popular and get him reelected in office. The guy is really a genius, unfortunately with bad motives, goals and operations. Just like Hitler.
Effectively such a huge government spending in economic high times is a major crime, since that government debt has to be paid from taxes or reduced government spending in later years, when there is quite probably a major economic downturn. It's easy, irresponsible playing with somebody else's money......
Cash injections in weak economy times can be quite good, to keep things going. The way this is currently done, with these cash checks to quite a lot of people who don't need it, is bad, because it is only spending and not something productive/investing.scobienz wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 8:38 pmNo it wasn't, and I have no strong views as to whether cash injections are morally and / or economically good or bad or indifferent.

Like what Hitler did during the great depression after 1929. Big spendings, but with a major target to invest in infrastructure.
The current $2000 just goes to food/drinks/living, IE life support, and does not bring persistent value items, IE just consuming, like borrowing money to go on a holiday.
And yep, the upper income limit for people getting these checks is far too high. Households with $0.5M over several people can get these. Ridiculous.
Ah, to reiterate, the great depression did come, because governments started to extremely restrict the amount of money available to the public. If world-wide governments had done the opposite, there would never have been a great depression. Many, many companies went broke, just because there was no money (IE notes/coins) to pay the bills, not because their business was unsustainable and/or they did have too much debt.

Here is another one, showing Trumpie is surrounded by palsies, in a conspiracy to overthrow the legal US government, using fake arguments and abusing the Presidential powers:
Near physical violent meeting, all documented, suitable to further accuse Trumpie of his illicit intentions to overthrow the legal US government
