US Election 2020
tbh impeachment means kind of nada when initiated by an alcoholic witch who tore up an official state document on live television
Trump is horrendous in so many respects, but the other side have behaved disgracefully as well. If these are the best America has to offer, the US is totally screwed
Interesting how conservative stalwarts have suddenly changed their tune when almost everybody calls them out, so much for principle. Surely it's easier just to admit they were wrong? Ego?

As the dust settles from Jan 6 it’s amazing to consider the sense of entitlement the guys who stormed the building must have had - they took pics and videos of themselves knowing they would be easy to identify.
It’s not like all of them were basement dwellers. Today two time Olympic gold medalist Klete Keller was arrested for his role; several others were lawyers, a CEO and there are currently over 20 police officers from around the country being investigated for their involvement. The guitarist of a well known heavy metal band is on the run, being sought by the FBI. The very very Jewish son of a senior Brooklyn judge was arrested earlier this week, seemingly unconcerned that he appeared in pictures next to guys wearing ‘Camp Auchwitz’ and ‘Six Million Were Not Enough’ shirts.
It’s just so fucking weird.

True to form, Trumpy bear has decided to stiff Giuliani. LOL!
President Donald Trump, irritated at being impeached for a second time, has told people to stop paying Rudy Giuliani's legal fees, a person familiar with the matter tells CNN, though aides were not clear if the President was serious about his instructions given he's lashing out at nearly everyone after the day's events.

Trumpie is a show master, knows how to run a show. Shows aren't about truth, shows are about what the audience wants to see, hear and experience as reality.
As said before, Trumpie is a genius with bad genes. At shows, you can not orchestrate everything upfront, you have to improvise with a direction and available methods in mind. That is what Trumpie did.
Fortunately, the slaughter of the Capitol Hill habitants failed. Otherwise, it would have been Martial law, no further governing of the current president (and the president-elect still only "elect"), election results cancelled (because of voter fraud) and Trumpie would have been the sole person in power he wanted to become. Pelosi as well as Pence would have been killed, so no competition for the power.
It's not fucking weird

The silence from the former Trump supporters on here is deafening!

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Not only the active supporters, but the passive ‘I can see why people support him’ apologists too.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 12:00 amThe silence from the former Trump supporters on here is deafening!

Agree, but if you're naive enough to think Biden and Harris are going to be a shining example of ethical and moral government, then perhaps you don't know which country we're discussing.
Let's resurrect this in a year or two and see how well they've done, should be interesting. My prediction is a (more polite, civilised) mess, a war in Syria or Iran or South America, not honoring the student loan issue or healthcare reforms.
I'd be surprised if Joe isn't dead within a year, teh stress must be huge and his VP is already slobbering at the thought. Popcorn!

People are allowed to support Trump's policies; that's how democracy works.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 12:48 amNot only the active supporters, but the passive ‘I can see why people support him’ apologists too.

What hasn't been good is the long-term undermining of governance structures such as the courts, federal agencies, state governments, media and the like. Cheering that process is problematic, regardless of one's position on policies.

Not demonized, but educated in human rights, equality and "don't do to another, what you do not want to get yourself confronted with" principles.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 10:12 amI don't think such people should be demonised. So you think people that understand why people voted for trump should be "educated in human rights, equality and "don't do to another, what you do not want to get yourself confronted with" principles"? That's absurd. Not only is it bizarre to think that those who try to understand a potentially distasteful mindset require an education, it points to what I feel is the core of the problem. Nobody tried to understand why people felt so jaded that they ended up voting for a guy like Trump, which they need to do so in order for it not to happen again; indeed, there are people who seem to think that anyone that even makes an effort to understand others deserves to be "educated in human rights".v12 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 3:31 pmNot demonized, but educated in human rights, equality and "don't do to another, what you do not want to get yourself confronted with" principles.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 10:12 amI don't think such people should be demonised. Since you come across as one of those moralistic soapbox types, how about you try and "seek first to understand, then to be understood".
The people who felt so jaded they voted for Trump were precisely the people who benefited least from his policies though SP. Did the much vaunted tax cuts impact them? No - they were geared almost exclusively to those earning over $70,000 a year, big corporates and businesses.
Did he bring back manufacturing jobs or mining communities? Of course not - it was never going to happen because you can't alter such significant macro-economic trends like moving manufacturing to cheap countries.
Did they benefit from increased job growth? Not at all.
Did they benefit from how he failed to deal adequately with Covid? On the contrary - it's the rural poor who have suffered most.
I get why they voted for an outsider initially. What i cant understand for the life of me is why they continue to support a guy who was so bad for them, nor why the republican party supports a guy who - by any measure - pursued policies which were the antithesis of economic conservatism.

Careful now - according to v12, a comment like that means you to be educated on human rights!
That's pretty easy. When you grow up as a kid, and the only opinions you hear is weapons are good, weapons give freedom, bla, bla, bla, you start to believe that, it's completely ingrained on you. These people (largely) did grow up in such an environment. It's not that difficult to understand. The more these people get educated about the "other side" of life's medal, the more the individuals start to understand the coin side, and they more and more cross over to the other side.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 5:30 pmSo you think people that understand why people voted for trump should be "educated in human rights, equality and "don't do to another, what you do not want to get yourself confronted with" principles"? The same with the-save-the-earth-green-lovers. When growing up in an environment, they do get ingrained with that.
The same in Cambodia. Kids that grow up in a poor situation, ingrained with that their situation is as it is, and they should continue to do what grandma also did, then these kids will not understand, that their situation is largely determined by what they do and aim for. Get the kids out of that thinking and they can improve their living situation. We all know, Cambodians do have a problem around "learning from past mistakes" and just keep on doing what they do, instead of improving and not hitting the same issue again. Of course, there is a lack of money, though that is only part of the problem.
And no, I am not a moralist, just a realist and I don't like soaps (are you a soap Trumpie fan)
