How difficult could it be for the civvies to form an assassination squad and take out the head of the snake.
Followed by purging the army of any remaining wannabe dictators.

And If China doesn't want to risk failing alone?
What would bring China on board to Lead and aid in UN in a peacekeeping mission? Something that would give China most of the credit if it worked out, but relatively little blame if it failed.
Kinard says it isn't now genocide and I agree, but no one likes to see what is happening and the trend, at the moment, looks to growing violence not a reduction. I'm sure we all wish it was better, we just disagree on how to get there and who should be involved.
We all care about Cambodia, I believe the largest UN intervention ever. The UN is full of people and politics, so all our flaws exist there. Still, for all the failures of UNTAC, we wouldn't be here if it didn't happen. I certainly wouldn't call Cambodia today a high flying example of perfect democracy, but bad though it is, it could be much worse for Khmer people than it is. For most people it is much better today than before UNTAC.
Maybe Myanmar will need an 'UNTAC lite', and I can't see it working without China. Perhaps we aren't there yet, but ...

A genuine question.
How much did Suu Kyi's ambition cause this current meltdown over there?
Selflessness is admirable.
Ambition : to the point where someone may have put their career, country or legacy, before their family, is something I struggle to get my head around.
She's probably surpassed her fathers legacy.
