Anybody watching Derek Chauvin trial (George Floyd)?
Check out this video of the police killing of Daniel Shaver because he wasn't good at playing "Simon Says."
If he were black, you'd be saying "We wouldn't be dead if he were white?" right?

The video you posted highlights the desperate need for police reform and reinforces the fact that death is a real prospect when encountering police in the USA.soo soo fin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 5:27 pmCheck out this video of the police killing of Daniel Shaver because he wasn't good at playing "Simon Says."

Black US citizens get killed at roughly twice the rate of their white compatriots, though whites do make up a greater absolute number as their percentage of the population is far higher. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics ... -database/

It gets abit too close to harsh reality towards the end of the docu, as you witness how everyone has aged.Fred Edwards wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 7:58 amI've just started watching Making a Murderer now, it's a right stitch up by the police or is it.
If it was a movie it would have had a happy victorious ending with high fives.
On the other hand, a Google search reveals the whole family/other suspects do seem to have quite an extensive criminal record, including violence towards women.

Thank God after this correct murder ruling the police will have finally learned a lesson not to kill black people without exhausting all other means possible first.

The 16-year old 220lb girl was trying to stab someone. Did you watch the video? If this would have been in some white neighborhood many would say serves the poor white trash right!
The policeman was trying to save a black life.

I have not watched the video - but the timing Fred, the timing. Are you telling me it was completely impossible for trained police grown men to not disarm a 16 year old woman without resorting to reaching for the hip? Don't they have police dogs in the USA? Or did they get the wrong hip again & have a taser in the wrong slot? Share a link to the video though if you have one, not the sort of thing I search for as "police shoot black woman" brings up about 119 million search results..Fred Edwards wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 12:39 amThe 16-year old 220lb girl was trying to stab someone. Yes you would definitely think so but if you watch the video this was a crazy girl she knew the police was there and she was inches away from stabbing someone.Spigzy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 4:06 amI have not watched the video - but the timing Fred, the timing. Mob rule in the USA , a jury too scared to find him not guilty because their identities are disclosed , an attack on the home of a witness . The very real threat of BLM inspired violence if the jury found him not guilty ..... he was never going to get a fair trial . Gosh even Obama and Harris support rioting protesters!
How ironic; a chauvin is a chauvinist(bigot)
Was always going to be a guilty verdict. The dude will now appeal and I read somewhere he'll probably get a sentence of around 12 years, eventually. If he had plead guilty, he might have perhaps ended up doing 8-10.
I don't see these recent high profile cases changing the present situation in the US anytime soon.

I fail to see how anybody can come up with a convincing argument for sitting on a restrained arrestee for over 9 minutes with 3 colleagues standing beside you, and there was no angry mob demanding that Floyd should be released, suggesting that if he was allowed to sit up they would interfere and get him out of the situation. They pointed out that he was being suffocated, and demanded that they should treat him like a human being. Look at the videos, compare that to a lot of other police incidents where there actually was a lot of tension and implied threats towards the police, and it should be pretty obvious that it was not about civil unrest. It was concerned citizens bothered by something that looked cruel and as a threat to the arrested man's life.Whatsitmatter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 4:52 am...he was never going to get a fair trial.
So unless Chauvin eventually gets off on some technicality the verdict was mostly given, some actions are so obviously wrong that you just can't expect any lawyer to be able to get you free, only lessen the punishment.
He got his time in court, his defense presented his case as best as it could, so not sure what the basis of your complaint is. The jury just decided that the accusation held up.

The crucial part of the evidence was when he warned by his colleagues they could not find a pulse instead giving CRP he continued holding him down until the paramedics arrived.
He probably could have got away with it if hehad taken his knee off him as soon as he was made aware by the other officers.
Ps the defence argued the reason he was restrained for so long was because the paramedics had a 3-minute response time and they thought it would be better for his safety and there's if they kept him in the prone position.

I’m not arguing his actions were reasonable or unreasonable just making the point that he had no hope of a fair trial . Jury , judges , politicians all pretenders frightened of opposing the mob .Guru Meditation wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 6:48 amI fail to see how anybody can come up with a convincing argument for sitting on a restrained arrestee for over 9 minutes with 3 colleagues standing beside you, and there was no angry mob demanding that Floyd should be released, suggesting that if he was allowed to sit up they would interfere and get him out of the situation. High profile cases create additional challenges to the administration of justice, however there are processes and procedures to mitigate the effects.Whatsitmatter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 4:52 amMob rule in the USA , a jury too scared to find him not guilty because their identities are disclosed , an attack on the home of a witness . An additional burden is the politicisation of this particular trial. Actions and comments by politicians undermine the perception of fairness, even if the process is equitable.
